About the role
Qureight is entering a new phase of growth – accelerating our global biopharma partnerships, expanding internationally, and building the infrastructure to support a high-growth, data-driven business. This requires a robust legal approach to ensure that we protect our IP and sign commercial deals that support our ambitious growth trajectory.
We are therefore hiring our first General Counsel & Company Secretary (0.8FTE) to build and lead the legal function at Qureight. In this varied and hands-on role, you will own commercial contracts and negotiations, coordinate intellectual property protection, and act as Company Secretary. You will also provide support for future fundraising, M&A deals, and strategic transactions. Working closely with the COO, CMO, CCO, and CFO, you will partner with external counsel where relevant. This role provides the opportunity to build and lead Qureight’s legal function from day one, as well as shape the legal and commercial foundations of a high-growth techbio company working at the forefront of AI-powered clinical trials.
What you will do
1. Lead all commercial contracting

Own and negotiate a wide range of agreements (including MSAs, SSAs etc), including:
- Pharma and biotech partnerships
-
Clinical CRO partnerships
-
SaaS / platform agreements
- Data sharing and licensing agreements
- Data Protection Agreements including international data transfers, engaging external counsel when required

Support the commercial team in structuring deals that balance risk, scalability and strategic value

Day-to-day operational contracts such as CDAs
2. Define and manage IP strategy
-
Coordinate Qureight’s intellectual property protection, including:
- Protection of AI/ML models, data assets, and methodologies

Engage external specialist counsel to help define and implement the protection strategy
- Licensing frameworks
- Work closely with science and engineering teams to:
- Identify protectable IP
- Identify and mitigate risks around third-party data and models
3. Company Secretary and corporate governance

Act as Company Secretary, responsible for:
- Board processes and governance
- Statutory compliance and filings
- Maintaining corporate records
- Support the Board and SLT on governance best practices
4. Support future fundraising, preparing for future M&A deals, and strategic transactions
5. Build the legal function

Establish scalable legal processes, templates, and policies
- Manage and optimise use of external counsel
- Be comfortable being the sole lawyer and happy doing both the day-to-day work and larger strategic projects (i.e. closing multi-million pound deals with global biopharma partners)
6. Risk management and compliance

Provide pragmatic, business-oriented legal advice across:
- Data protection and privacy e.g. GDPR
- Regulatory considerations (GCP clinical trials and standard pass-down clauses / AI where relevant)
- International expansion
- Stay abreast of new/updated legislation/regulation and advise/integrate into the business

Balance legal risk with commercial objectives
7. Strategic partner to leadership

Act as a trusted advisor to the SLT on:
- Commercial strategy
- Partnerships

Requirements
What we need:

At least 7 years PQE
-
In-house experience working in a VC-backed, high growth techbio, biotech, SaaS, or deep tech company
-
Proven experience of closing commercial deals in a way which appropriately balances legal and commercial risks with getting things done as quickly as feasible
- Experience with:

Intellectual property strategy and management
- Data protection and international data transfers

Technology, data, or AI-related legal issues
- Contracting in the biotech industry

Managing M&A projects

Managing outside counsel where necessary

Experience supporting boards and governance processes
- Familiarity with Company Secretary responsibilities (or willingness to take them on)
- Ability to build rapport and develop strong relationships with key stakeholders, including the ability to form excellent working relationships with scientists and engineers
- A strong bias for action: driven to implement what’s needed to deliver
- Outstanding drafting and negotiation skills
