The role:
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an Associate Dental Photography Practitioner to join our established team of photographers, videographers, and graphic designers within one of the UK’s largest Medical Illustration Services, based at Glasgow Dental Hospital. We provide specialist visual support to NHS and University staff involved in patient care, education, teaching, and research.
This role is primarily based within the dental environment, supporting the delivery of clinical photography to aid patient diagnosis, treatment planning, and documentation. You will assist with booking in patients, preparing them for imaging, and providing chairside support such as retraction to facilitate image capture. Working in a busy clinical setting with a diverse patient population, you will also contribute to post-processing, file management, and ensuring images are handled in line with professional and clinical standards.
Alongside clinical duties, you will contribute to the wider work of Medical Illustration Services by providing administrative, technical, and image management support. There will also be opportunities to assist with non-clinical photography, including PR photography, staff portraiture, and educational materials, for those interested in developing their skills further.
We are looking for an individual with strong communication and IT skills who can work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. A key aspect of the role involves interacting with patients, relatives, and carers in a sensitive and empathetic manner, including those who may be anxious or have communication barriers such as learning difficulties, language differences, hearing loss, or visual impairment.

Shift pattern for this post are a full-time post working 36 hours per week on a 5 over 7 basis, including public holidays. Shift patterns may vary depending on service needs.
Key responsibilities:
Assist with clinical photography and diagnostic image production, including supporting image capture, handling administrative tasks, and performing post-processing. This role contributes to the routine, protocol-driven imaging of patients requested by healthcare professionals for purposes such as clinical assessment, medical records, teaching, publication, and research.

Process data and information from clinical photographic requests in accordance with local protocols and consent policies.

Assist the clinical photographer with patients’ dental photography by holding lip retractors and intraoral photographic mirrors.

Assist in reassuring anxious patients/relatives/carers regarding the photography policy and procedures prior to and/or during their photographic session.

Carry out post-capture processing on routine clinical imaging in accordance with local protocol on patients referred from across all specialty services.

Ensure all photographic records are processed and uploaded securely against correct supplied patient information, with quality review checks in place to confirm accuracy.

Prepare designated rooms for imaging ensuring compliance with service protocols and health and safety.

Ensure equipment stored and cleaned according to local protocols.

To ensure a safe-working environment, reporting any risks or equipment faults accordingly.

To work within relevant legislation, for example, local policies and codes of professional conduct; ensure patient confidentiality at all times.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
Essential

HND in photography or equivalent qualification or experience.

Previous experience working within health / social care environments (desirable).

Basic working knowledge of PC /Apple Macintosh systems and associated software.

Good interpersonal and communication skills.

Good level of manual dexterity.
