Who we are: WPH Counselling is a local charity offering a range of free and confidential counselling services; we have established a caring and welcoming place where people can find compassionate care, reliable information and emotional support in times of crisis and concern.

What we do: since 1992 WPH has provided free qualified counselling services for Children and Adults across Walsall. We also support the mental health of pregnant women through our Walsall Pregnancy Help arm of the service. Our customers include the Black Country NHS Trust, local schools, and the Police.

We are looking for: volunteer trustees to join our board with the expertise and capacity to support the governance and leadership of the organisation, by contributing to specific projects to shape and improve the service. Within this round of recruitment, we are particularly interested to hear from those with a background in counselling, or charity governance and operations.

What a trustee does: “Trustees have overall control of a charity and are responsible for making sure it’s doing what it was set up to do. Trustees are the people who lead the charity and decide how it is run.” (Charity commission for England and Wales)

We are looking for trustees to have one of the following skill sets: Within this round of recruitment, we are particularly interested to hear from those with a background in counselling, or charity governance and operations. . We want our trustee Board to reflect our diverse society, and we welcome applicants from minority and diverse communities.

What it means for you: Trustees are an unpaid role supporting and overseeing a charitable business. Being a trustee can be a rewarding role and might be for you if you’re interested in:

- Gaining skills, networking and insight opportunities in the field of Mental health and Counselling

- Belonging to a small charitable service with a culture of ‘helping’ and ‘compassionate care’ with good quality, qualified counsellors.

- Improving a charitable service being provided across Walsall and having a say in how service is delivered.

- Making a real difference to people who are most in need.

- Access to knowledge, skills and training around being trustee, and counselling.

- Developing your leadership skills

Time commitment: the service has a Trustee Board meeting every other month, and there is also an Annual General Meeting once a year. Trustees are able to contribute to specific projects and areas of work as developed with the Chair of Trustees, the Service Director and other trustees in addition to Board meetings.

Please note that this is a voluntary unpaid post, with reimbursement for expenses if required.
