Technical Services & Calibration Engineer
Location: Whitstable, Kent (Field-Based with UK & International Travel)

Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Technical Services & Calibration Engineer to join our expanding UK engineering team based in Whitstable, Kent.
Please note: This role requires quarterly business travel to Nigeria (approximately one week every quarter) to support customer projects, train local engineers and assist with technical operations. Applicants must be willing and able to undertake regular international travel.
The Role
This is a varied, hands-on engineering role combining field service, calibration, technical support and customer training.
You will be responsible for:
- Installing, commissioning and validating scientific laboratory instrumentation.
- Performing planned preventative maintenance, servicing and calibration activities.
- Diagnosing and repairing electrical, mechanical and software faults.
- Delivering customer training on the operation, maintenance and best use of scientific equipment.
- Providing technical support to customers both remotely and on-site.
- Attending manufacturer training programmes within Europe and online to maintain technical competence.
- Working closely with our UK and Nigerian engineering teams to deliver customer projects.
- Travelling to Nigeria approximately one week every quarter to support installations, maintenance activities, customer training and the development of local engineers.
- Supporting laboratory setup projects and assisting customers working towards ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation.
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and assisting with operational projects during quieter engineering periods.
About You
You will have:
- Degree or HND in Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or a related scientific discipline.
- Minimum of 3-5 years' experience servicing, maintaining and calibrating analytical laboratory instrumentation.
- Experience with analytical instruments such as HPLC, GC, UV-Vis, FTIR, spectroscopy or similar laboratory equipment.
- Experience installing, commissioning and validating laboratory equipment.
- Experience delivering customer training and technical demonstrations.
- Knowledge of laboratory quality systems, with experience supporting ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratories being highly desirable.
- Excellent fault-finding, diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a professional customer-focused approach.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and travel regularly.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Valid passport (or ability to obtain one).
- Willingness to undertake quarterly business travel to Nigeria and occasional travel elsewhere in the UK and internationally.
- Right to work in the UK.

- Laboratory automation systems
- Calibration and metrology
- ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory accreditation
- GMP or GLP laboratory environments

Pay: £35,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
