AFC Horizen Folding Machine Operator (Print Production)
Job Summary
The AFC Horizen Folding Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining Horizen folding equipment within a commercial print environment. This role supports the bindery/finishing department by producing accurate, high-quality folded print products while meeting production schedules, quality standards, and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate AFC Horizen folding machines to fold printed materials such as brochures, mailers, inserts, and booklets
- Read and interpret job sheets, folding diagrams, and production schedules
- Load printed sheets, adjust feeder settings, fold plates, and delivery systems for various paper stocks and fold styles
- Perform make-readies, test runs, and ongoing adjustments to ensure proper registration, square folds, and clean finishes
- Monitor production runs for quality, consistency, and efficiency
- Inspect finished work for defects including misfolds, cracking, skewing, or marking
- Troubleshoot minor mechanical or operational issues and coordinate with maintenance for major repairs
- Perform routine cleaning and preventative maintenance to keep equipment running efficiently
- Accurately record production counts, waste, and downtime
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe bindery work area
- Work closely with press operators, bindery staff, and supervisors to meet deadlines and customer specifications
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Prior experience in a commercial print or bindery environment preferred
- Experience operating folding machines (Horizen or similar) strongly preferred
- Understanding of paper stocks, grain direction, and common fold styles
- Ability to read job tickets and folding layouts
- Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

Pay: £24,593.82-£28,000.00 per year
