Role description:
As a Ground Investigation Consultant, you will be an integral member of our UK-wide Site Evaluation and Restoration team, supporting the delivery of a broad range of ground investigation projects. You will be responsible for collecting, collating and managing site and laboratory data, undertaking site and task management activities, and preparing technical reports.
Working within our Ground Investigation Contracting capability, you will support clients across a range of sectors, with a particular focus on infrastructure projects including rail, highways and waterways. Your responsibilities will include ground investigation management, site supervision and the preparation of technical reports, including Factual Ground Investigation Reports. A significant proportion of your time will be spent on client sites delivering site investigation services.
We are seeking an established Ground Investigation professional from either a consultancy or contractor background who has experience supporting land contamination, geotechnical and/or ground condition investigations and is looking to develop their career further. As part of our Ground Investigation capability, you will have the opportunity to work across a diverse portfolio of projects and sectors, while also broadening your skills within our geo-environmental consultancy team through exposure to land quality and engineering geology assessments.

This role can be based in any of our Warrington, Bristol or Cardiff offices. Projects are predominantly located across the North West, with regular travel to site required.
Role accountabilities:
- Manage tasks including supply chain coordination and procurement.
- Undertake field-based work across the UK.
- Manage ground investigations and associated site activities, with a strong emphasis on health and safety management and documentation.
- Collect site characterisation data, including soil, rock and groundwater samples.
- Log soils and rock in accordance with relevant British Standards and undertake appropriate in-situ field testing.
- Manage geo-environmental sample collection, associated documentation and laboratory scheduling.
- Compile site data for inclusion within Factual Ground Investigation Reports.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated project outcomes.
- Produce high-quality project outputs, including reports, specifications and technical documentation, ensuring compliance with Arcadis standards and relevant legislation, standards and guidance.
- Build effective working relationships with Project Managers, clients and stakeholders, maintaining clear communication on project progress, risks and issues.
- Develop a strong understanding of Arcadis services, client businesses and industry sectors to support professional development and business growth.
Qualifications & Experience:
Requirements
Essential
- BSc degree (or higher) in Geology, Environmental Geoscience, Environmental Science or a related Earth Science discipline.
- Experience working on site and supervising contractors, including drilling contractors.
- Minimum of 12 months' experience delivering geo-environmental projects, including geotechnical and/or contaminated land investigations.
- Understanding of hazards, risk management and health & safety requirements associated with ground investigations.
- Strong report-writing skills, including experience preparing Factual Ground Investigation Reports.
- Working towards professional membership and chartership with a relevant professional body.
Desirable
- SSSTS or SMSTS certification.
- Experience working within the rail and/or highways sectors.
