About Alan Marshall Tutoring
Alan Marshall Tutoring is an online maths tutoring business based in Scotland, currently serving students from P7 through Advanced Higher. From September 2026, we are expanding into the English market, offering group maths tuition from Key Stage 3 through to GCSE. We deliver live group classes via Zoom and run a thriving community platform for students and families.
Our teaching is built around the Marshall Maths Method, with a core philosophy that good tutoring makes itself obsolete. What we offer is genuinely different to most group tutoring providers: a structured, evidence-based approach to maths that builds long-term retention and independence, not just exam technique.
Experience in the Scottish curriculum as well is a bonus and would broaden the scope of the role significantly.
The Role
This is a newly created part-time role, established as part of our English market expansion. It has two distinct areas of responsibility: curriculum oversight for the English programme, and live class delivery at GCSE level.
You do not need to be a fully qualified teacher. We are open to applications from those currently in teacher training, those who have taught previously, or experienced tutors with a strong track record at GCSE level. What matters most is that you know the English curriculum well and that you can deliver engaging, well-paced live teaching in an online environment.
We have an existing team who handle the creation of slides, worksheets, quizzes, and assessments. Your role on the curriculum side is to oversee that output, ensure it is accurate and appropriately pitched for the English curriculum, and provide expert guidance to the team producing it.
What You Will Be Doing:
Curriculum Oversight (Key Stage 3 and GCSE)
- Overseeing the quality and accuracy of curriculum materials across Key Stage 3 and GCSE, aligned to the English national curriculum
- Reviewing slides, worksheets, quizzes, and assessments produced by the content team and providing clear, expert feedback
- Ensuring all materials are correctly aligned to the English curriculum at each level and reflect the relevant GCSE specification
- Identifying gaps or inaccuracies in existing materials and flagging them to the relevant team members
- Acting as the subject matter expert the content team can refer to when they need guidance on the English curriculum
- Collaborating with the founder on curriculum direction and quality standards for the English programme
Live Class Delivery (GCSE)
- Delivering live group classes via Zoom at GCSE level (Foundation and Higher tier)
- Beginning with a shadowing period to understand the Marshall Maths Method in practice before leading classes independently
- Maintaining the pace, tone, and quality standard expected across all Alan Marshall Tutoring classes
- Responding to student questions and engagement during live sessions
- Working closely with the founder on lesson structure and delivery approach
What We Are Looking For:
Essential
- Strong subject knowledge across Key Stage 3 and GCSE maths (both Foundation and Higher tier)
- Experience teaching or tutoring maths at GCSE level, whether in school, through a training programme, or privately
- Confident delivering maths to GCSE students in a live setting
- Able to review and give clear, constructive feedback on teaching materials
- Reliable and organised, able to work to deadlines without needing to be chased
- Comfortable working remotely as part of a small, growing team
Desirable
- Experience with or knowledge of the Scottish curriculum
- Experience delivering online classes
- Knowledge of both Edexcel and AQA GCSE specifications
- Experience in a quality assurance or curriculum review capacity
What You Will Get
- The chance to be part of a business expansion from the ground up, shaping how we teach in a new market
- A flexible part-time role that works around other commitments
- A meaningful curriculum oversight role with real influence on teaching quality
- Direct involvement in live class delivery at GCSE level
- A clear route to increased hours as the English programme grows
- Competitive hourly rate, commensurate with experience
