Horticultural Nursery Manager
Cumbria Wildflowers is a wildflower nursery and habitat re-creation company. We are looking for an enthusiastic and hard working nursery manager to manage our current nursery team and oversee the successful running of Cumbria Wildflowers.
Main Duties and Responsibilities: Your main role will be to manage the delivery of the day to day nursery work programme and co-ordinate the nursery worker team. The work follows a seasonal growing year with key periods of activity, which will require you to:
· Oversee and lead on the day to day management of the nursery.
· Co-ordinate and manage nursery worker team and project planning.
· Maintain and manage nursery stock levels at agreed levels including forward planning all replacement stock, ordering sundries and planning replacements
· Responsibility and delegated budget spend for most nursery business purchases.
· Lead on managing the website orders, trade accounts and contract grow orders with responsibility to manage all sales from internet, email and telephone.
· Liaise with clients and customers when required
· Assist with all nursery work including pricking out, pruning, seeding and other growing techniques and give advice where necessary
· Lead on the development of new growing techniques and undertaking new propagation methods
· Manage and organise the maintenance of nursery infrastructure including polytunnels, greenhouse, potting shed and pump house
Implement all staff and nursery H&S procedures including review process
The role will command a range of on-the job training plus external training and there is also opportunity for personal development and advancement of your horticultural skill level and experience. We are keen that the Nursery Manager spends some time on research and development in ways to improve seed germination and/or propagation techniques.
There is also the opportunity to work on a range of habitat creation projects.
Qualifications
Ideally the successful candidate will have a professional horticultural qualification, and a minimum of 2 years relevant experience, however if no formal qualification they will need more than the minimum 2 years experience and be able to demonstrate experience of plant growing and management of different plant species
PA1 and PA6 would be desirable
