This role will be based at the GWH Radiology department and at the Community Diagnostic Centre in West Swindon on a rotational basis.
When working in the Community Diagnostic Centre the successful candidate will work collaboratively with GWH Radiology department to provide diagnostic radiographic examinations to the required standard.
1. To independently assess and justify referrals under IR(ME)R 2017 following practitioner guidelines where appropriate
2. Able to interpret Clinician’s requirements, to determine the appropriate radiographic imaging technique and ensure that it is performed in accordance with best practice and that the resultant images are diagnostic
3. To use discretion to work outside of departmental standards when clinical circumstances necessitate i.e. undertaking additional or specialist techniques
4. To report any untoward incidents and equipment failure to the Superintendent or Clinical Band 7.
5. To abide by the Health and Safety Code of the unit and ensure that all patients and visitors do likewise.
6. To appear on duty promptly and appropriately dressed and behave in a professional manner.
7. To work out of hours to support the Radiology services offered at Great Western Hospital, including night shifts.

1. To undertake diagnostic scans in the absence of a Radiologist according to agreed protocols. Administering contrast as required for the needs of the patients, ensuring safety checks are completed and accuracy in dosage.
2. To be able to use the departmental Computed Radiology Information Computer system (CRIS) as required and be conversant with the Picture Archive Communication Systems (PACS).
3. To undertake Quality Control procedures, including Quality Assurance testing for image quality and equipment safety, and to help with clinical audits.
4. To undertake and participate in clinical audit and research and to act on the findings where possible and provide statistical information on the workload when necessary.
5. To undertake any formal or informal training required to fulfil the needs of the post.
6. To undertake additional roles within the department, reviewing and facilitating compliance, and proposing changes with high standards in areas such as, but not limited to, health and safety, infection control, patient experience or manual handling.
