Main Purpose
As Inclusion Lead, you will champion a culture of inclusion across the training team, ensuring students are consistently able to engage, progress and achieve positive outcomes. You will develop, deliver, monitor and review inclusive practices, ensuring all students’ needs are understood, and that support is effectively planned, implemented and continually refined. You will coordinate support for SEND, those with additional needs and disadvantaged students. You will be a Designated Teacher for care experienced students.
As a Tutor, you will be responsible for planning and delivering qualifications, and provide personal, pastoral and employability skills and support for students aged 16-19, in agreed subjects. This will include Functional Skills and GCSE Maths and/or English, digital skills, employability and personal/social development. Students include English speakers and those who speak English as a second language.
Key Responsibilities
Inclusion lead:
- Champion a culture of inclusion across the provision, influencing tutor practice and embedding high expectations for inclusive teaching and support.
- Ensure students’ needs are effectively identified, met and reviewed through leading and embedding an evidence-informed graduated approach (Assess–Plan–Do–Review), reducing barriers to learning.
- Contribute to the ongoing development and review of the Inclusion Strategy and other policies and practices relating to SEND, inclusion and student support.
- Lead the implementation, embedding and monitoring of agreed inclusion priorities across the team.
- Be a Designated Teacher for care experienced students, working collaboratively with students, carers and professionals to develop, review and secure high-quality Personal Education Plans (PEPs).
- Ensure student reviews and PEPs are inclusive and demonstrably improve student progress and outcomes.
- Lead the planning and oversight of student support plans, reasonable adjustments and exam access arrangements, ensuring students facing barriers receive appropriate, effective and compliant support.
- Ensure EHCP provision is effectively planned, delivered and reviewed, including appropriate adaptations, engagement with families and coordination with external specialists.
- Monitor and report on inclusion performance, using data and stakeholder feedback to inform decision-making and continuous improvement.
Tutor:
- Deliver consistently high-quality, inclusive and trauma-informed teaching and support aligned with internal and external professional FE teaching standards.
- Plan and deliver a coherent curriculum that enables students to achieve qualifications and develop their personal, social and employability skills.
- Be responsible for student outcomes by ensuring all students have clear, ambitious goals and receive the support required to achieve and progress.
- Ensure all students’ needs are met and that they are supported appropriately to achieve well, including those with identified additional support needs.
- Use data, evidence, and student voice to continuously evaluate and improve teaching, learning and support strategies.
- Create a safe, inclusive and purposeful learning environment, proactively promoting high standards of behaviour, attendance, engagement and progress.
- Proactively contribute to developing and delivering the wider student experience, including induction, assessment, enrichment, careers and progression activities.
- Maintain accurate, timely and high-quality records, demonstrating professional accountability and compliance with organisational and funding requirements.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and external partners to support students holistically, contribute to continuous improvement and respond flexibly to service needs, including participation in professional meetings (e.g. PEPs).
- Take responsibility for safeguarding, promoting the welfare of students, and acting on concerns in line with organisational policy.
- Contribute to quality assurance, curriculum development and innovation to ensure provision remains relevant, effective and continuously improving.
- Demonstrate professional accountability by meeting performance expectations and contributing to team targets.
- Take ownership of continuous professional development, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of FE practice, subject expertise and regulatory requirements.
- Support the organisation’s sustainability through the effective and efficient use of resources.
- Contribute to creating and supporting engagement, marketing and promotional activities as required.
- Adhere to all applicable internal and external regulations, guidance, policies and procedures.
Person Specification
Essential
- Strong classroom and behaviour management skills using inclusive and trauma-informed approaches
- Ability to plan and deliver engaging teaching for learners with diverse needs
- Excellent communication, teamwork and relationship-building skills with students, families and professionals
- Strong organisational skills and ability to maintain accurate, timely records
- Experience of teaching English and/or maths to 16–19 learners
- Experience of supporting students with SEND, additional learning needs or disadvantage
- Experience of assessing learner needs and implementing effective support strategies
- Experience of working collaboratively with external agencies, parents/carers and multi-disciplinary teams
- Level 2 English and maths (or equivalent)
- Teaching qualification or willingness to work towards one
- Relevant subject qualification in English, maths, ESOL, education, SEND or a related field
Desirable
- Ability to analyse learner progress data to inform interventions
- Confidence in coaching colleagues and modelling inclusive practice
- Experience of contributing to strategy or policy development
- Experience in a further education or alternative provision setting
- Experience of leading inclusion, SEND or pastoral provision
- Experience of acting as Designated Teacher or coordinating PEP reviews
- Specialist SEND or inclusion qualification
- Assessor, IQA or exam access arrangements qualification
- Safeguarding or trauma-informed practice training beyond mandatory requirements
