GI Medicine at MFT is undergoing one of the most significant periods of investment and transformation in its history. Backed by sustained funding, we are expanding our gastroenterology, hepatology and endoscopy services with a substantial increase in substantive clinical, nursing, allied health and administrative roles. This investment is focused on building a stable, future-proof workforce, reducing reliance on insourcing, and creating roles that are properly supported, well-resourced and designed for the long term.
GI Medicine operates as a managed single service MSS across North Manchester General Hospital (NMGH), Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI), Wythenshawe Hospital and Trafford General Hospital (TGH). All roles will be expected to work across sites as part of a collaborative, cross-site working ethos that promotes shared learning, consistency of care and flexibility within job planning.
We are excited to introduce this new role in GI Medicine at MFT. The FibroScan Technician will play a key role in delivering non-invasive liver assessments using transient elastography (FibroScan) technology. Working under the supervision of the nursing and medical clinical team, the post holder will support the early detection and monitoring of liver disease through the use of FibroScan, contributing to improved patient outcomes and more streamlined diagnostic pathways.
On a day-to-day basis, the post holder will work in the outpatient setting alongside the hepatology team to ensure that the FibroScan service is delivered effectively within available resources, meeting specified activity levels and maintaining high standards of quality.
A CPD course in Fibroscan Operator Training is essential. Experience in performing FibroScan assessments is desirable. However, full training will be provided for a successful candidate who does not have prior experience. Previous experience working within a healthcare setting is essential.
Experience in working in the liver specialty is an advantage.

What is a DBS Check?
A DBS check is a background check that reveals any criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands, or warnings. The level of check required depends on the role:
Standard DBS : Checks for spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and final warnings.
Enhanced DBS : Includes the above, plus any additional information held by local police that’s considered relevant to the role.
Enhanced with Barred Lists: Includes all of the above, plus checks against the children’s and/or adults’ barred lists.
Who Needs a DBS Check
Most roles involving direct patient contact, working with children or vulnerable adults, or access to sensitive information will require a DBS check. The job advert and recruitment team will let you know if this applies to your role.
The Costs for a DBS
At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), roles that require a DBS check are subject to a cost recovery policy. This means that the cost of submitting and processing a DBS application if you are successful and join us, will be deducted from your salary within the first three months of employment. If, however, you withdraw from a conditional offer after the DBS process has begun, you will still be liable for the cost incurred.
