About Us

Sarah Bates School of Swimming is a well-established, family-run swim school based in Stenson, Derby.

Founded by Sarah Bates, who has over 30 years of teaching experience and was recognised as one of the UK's top swimming teachers, our swim school has been teaching children to swim for over 30 years. We provide lessons from 3 months old through to advanced swimmers, with a strong emphasis on water safety, confidence and developing lifelong swimming skills.

Our purpose-built teaching pool was designed specifically with children's lessons in mind, allowing us to maintain small class sizes and deliver high-quality instruction in a supportive environment. We pride ourselves on creating a friendly, professional atmosphere for both our swimmers and teaching team.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Lead Swim Teacher & Programme Coordinator to join our team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a confident swim teacher who enjoys taking responsibility and wants to play a key role in supporting the day-to-day operation of a busy swim school.

The role combines delivering swimming lessons with coordinating our teaching programme, helping to ensure lessons run smoothly and our teaching team is fully supported.

Key Responsibilities:

Swimming Teaching

We are a Swim England Swim School Provider 2026/2027, and follow their awards system.
Deliver engaging, high-quality swimming lessons to children of varying ages and abilities.
Maintain a safe, positive and professional learning environment.
Follow our structured teaching programme and standards.
Complete swimmer assessments and progress records where required.

Programme Coordination

Organise and maintain teacher rotas.
Arrange cover for staff absences, holidays and emergencies.
Prepare and manage teacher registers, lesson sheets and associated administration.
Act as a key point of contact for teaching staff regarding schedules and lesson organisation.
Support the smooth day-to-day running of the lesson programme.
Work closely with management to maintain high teaching standards and operational efficiency.

Essential Requirements

Minimum Swim England Level 2 Swimming Teacher qualification or STA Level 2 Award in Teaching Swimming.
Proven experience teaching swimming lessons independently.
Strong organisational and administrative skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and use initiative.
Professional, reliable and flexible approach.
Available to teach a minimum of 4 days per week (5 preferred).

Desirable

Previous experience coordinating teaching teams or managing rotas.
Experience arranging lesson cover.
Experience working within a swim school environment.

Safeguarding

The successful applicant will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
