Parts Controller
We are seeking a proactive and organised Parts Controller to support the control and movement of engineering components and materials across our manufacturing operations.
Working closely with Purchasing, Production, Design and Project Management, the Parts Controller will ensure components are accurately received, identified, stored and issued to support production and project requirements.
This is a hands-on role requiring excellent attention to detail and organisation. The successful candidate will take ownership of stock accuracy and parts traceability, ensuring our ERP/MRP system accurately reflects physical inventory and that components are available when required.
The role involves handling a wide range of engineering parts, including machined and fabricated components, raw materials, fasteners, assemblies and bought-in components. Experience within an engineering, manufacturing, automotive, motorsport, aerospace or similar technical environment would be advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and inspect incoming engineering components and materials, checking quantities, part numbers and condition against purchase orders.
- Accurately book components and materials into the ERP/MRP system and maintain accurate stock records.
- Pick and kit components against Bills of Materials (BOMs), production orders and project requirements.
- Issue parts and materials to Production, Fabrication and Assembly, ensuring stock movements are accurately recorded.
- Maintain clear identification, labelling and organisation of components and stock locations.
- Carry out regular cycle counts and stock takes and investigate any discrepancies.
- Monitor component availability and proactively highlight shortages or material risks.
- Work closely with Purchasing to identify outstanding components and obtain supplier delivery updates.
- Liaise with Production, Design and Project Management to ensure parts are available in line with project requirements.
- Manage the movement of components to and from subcontract suppliers for processes such as machining, fabrication, coating and finishing.
- Ensure engineering components are correctly handled, packaged and stored to prevent damage or loss.
- Prepare components and assemblies for subcontract processing and customer dispatch.
- Support improvements to stock control, kitting, labelling, material flow and storage.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe parts and stores environment.
- Operate material handling equipment, including forklifts where authorised.
- Undertake other reasonable duties to support the Operations and Supply Chain teams.
Qualifications & Experience
- Previous experience within a parts, stores, materials or inventory role, ideally within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Experience handling engineering, automotive, motorsport, aerospace or other technical components would be advantageous.
- Good understanding of stock control and inventory management.
- Experience using an ERP, MRP or inventory management system is preferred.
- Experience with Bills of Materials (BOMs), production orders or engineering part numbers would be beneficial.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with different departments and suppliers.
- Able to prioritise workload and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Proactive approach to identifying and resolving stock and material issues.
- Good computer literacy, including Microsoft Office.
- Counterbalance Forklift Licence preferred, or willingness to undertake training.
- Full UK driving licence desirable.
