Cheadle Post Office is looking for a friendly, reliable and customer-focused Post Office Counter Clerk to join our team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with people, takes pride in delivering exceptional customer service and wants to be part of a busy community business at the heart of Cheadle.
Full training will be provided, so previous Post Office experience is desirable but not essential.
The Role
As a Counter Clerk, you’ll be responsible for providing a professional and efficient service across a wide range of Post Office and retail services, ensuring every customer leaves with a positive experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Serving customers quickly, accurately and professionally.
- Processing letters and parcels for a range of mails carriers.
- Handling banking transactions for personal and business customers.
- Selling Post Office products and services.
- Managing cash and balancing your till accurately.
- Assisting with travel money and bill payment services.
- Promoting products and services to meet customer needs.
- Helping maintain a clean, organised and welcoming branch alongside the retail business.
- Supporting the wider team during busy periods.
- Following all Post Office security, compliance and operational procedures.
What We’re Looking For

- Honest, trustworthy and able to handle cash accurately.
- Reliable with excellent attention to detail.
- Comfortable using computers and technology.
- Able to work well under pressure in a busy environment.
- A team player with a positive attitude.
- Flexible to work additional hours when required to cover holidays or sickness.
Desirable Experience
- Customer service experience.
- Cash handling experience.
- Retail or hospitality experience.
- Previous Post Office or banking experience (advantageous but not essential).

Salary
