Overview
Dunkertons Cider is one of the South West's leading hospitality and events venues, combining a busy taproom, multiple bars, food vendors and a year-round programme of live music, private hire and large-scale events.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, driven and highly organised Deputy Bar Manager to support the Bar Manager in the day-to-day operation of the venue. This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys leading from the front.
You'll be responsible for helping deliver exceptional customer experiences while ensuring our bars operate safely, efficiently and in full compliance with licensing legislation. You'll support the management of a large casual workforce, oversee busy service periods, maintain high operational standards and confidently lead the venue in the Bar Manager's absence.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their management career within a growing hospitality business.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Bar Manager in the day-to-day running of all bar operations across the venue.
- Lead shifts, ensuring outstanding customer service and efficient service during both everyday trading and large-scale events.
- Supervise, motivate and develop supervisors and bar staff, creating a positive, professional and accountable working culture.
- Act as Duty Manager when required, taking responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of the venue.
- Ensure compliance with licensing legislation, Challenge 25, health and safety procedures and company policies.
- Assist with recruitment, inductions, training and ongoing development of the bar team.
- Monitor staffing levels throughout service and make operational decisions to maintain excellent guest experiences.
- Support cellar operations, stock control, ordering, line cleaning schedules and stock investigations.
- Minimise waste through effective stock management and good operational practices.
- Handle customer complaints professionally and resolve issues quickly and fairly.
- Complete venue checks, incident reporting, accident reporting and operational paperwork accurately.
- Work closely with the Events, Security and Technical teams to deliver successful live music events, private hire functions, corporate events and seasonal festivals.
- Ensure the venue is presented to an exceptional standard at all times.
- Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability and continuous improvement.
About You
You'll be a confident leader who enjoys developing people and setting high standards. You'll remain calm under pressure and be comfortable making decisions in a busy, high-volume environment.
You'll have:

- Experience working in high-volume bars, pubs, venues or event spaces.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Strong organisational and time management abilities.
- Experience managing rotas, labour and stock control.
- A thorough understanding of licensing law, Challenge 25 and health and safety requirements.
- Excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills.
- The ability to motivate teams and lead by example.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
What We Offer

- Ongoing training and development.
- A varied role within one of Gloucestershire's busiest hospitality and events venues.
