Role Description
We are currently recruiting professional and reliable Security Guard to work on construction sites in Cheltenham. This role is vital in maintaining site safety, preventing unauthorised access, and protecting assets.
The ideal candidate will be vigilant, responsible, and confident in handling security duties independently.
Key Responsibilities
As a Security Guard / Traffic Marshal, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and organised environment for staff, visitors, contractors, and members of the public.
Your duties will include:
- Carrying out regular security patrols of the site and reporting any suspicious activity, hazards, or incidents.
- Monitoring access points and ensuring only authorised persons and vehicles enter the premises.
- Signing visitors, contractors, and deliveries in and out where required.
- Providing a professional security presence and excellent customer service at all times.
- Managing vehicle movement safely around the site, including guiding drivers, deliveries, and contractors.
- Acting as a traffic marshal/banksman when required, using clear communication and agreed hand signals.
- Helping to keep pedestrians and vehicles separated where possible to reduce risk.
- Responding calmly and professionally to emergencies, incidents, or site issues.
- Completing accurate incident reports, daily logs, and handover notes.
- Following all company procedures, site rules, health and safety requirements, and client instructions.
- Supporting site management with general security and safety duties as required.
Requirements
The ideal candidate should have:
- A valid SIA licence where required for the security role. In the UK, SIA states that security operatives may need a front-line SIA licence for licensable activities such as manned guarding, and applicants must be 18 or over for an SIA licence.
- Previous experience in security, site guarding, construction security, retail security, or traffic marshal duties is preferred.
- Traffic Marshal / Banksman training is preferred. HSE describes banksmen/traffic marshals as trained operatives who direct vehicle movement on or around site, and says banksmen should be trained and authorised.
- Good communication skills and the ability to give clear instructions to drivers, visitors, and staff.
- A professional, polite, and confident attitude.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and deal with incidents responsibly.
- Good observation skills and attention to detail.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to work flexible shifts, including days, nights, weekends, or bank holidays if required.
- Right to work in the UK, with checks completed before employment in line with GOV.UK employer guidance.
Preferred but Not Essential
- First Aid certificate.
- Fire Marshal training.
- Previous experience on construction sites, warehouses, car parks, events, retail sites, or commercial premises.
- Full UK driving licence.
