Revit Design Technician Apprentice – Winnersh, Wokingham
Salary: £24,000 – £26,000 | Full-Time, Apprenticeship
Oakley Food Projects Ltd is a family-owned turnkey design and build specialist delivering construction, mechanical and electrical solutions to food, beverage and pharmaceutical manufacturers across the UK.
From concept design through to factory fit-out, we provide fully integrated project delivery for complex industrial production environments.
Due to continued growth, we are looking for an Design Technician Apprentice to join our team in Winnersh, Wokingham.
The Role
This apprenticeship offers the opportunity to gain practical experience working on real construction projects while studying towards a recognised engineering qualification through an approved training provider.
You will work alongside experienced designers while developing the technical knowledge and practical skills required for a career in Design Engineering.
You will be supported through structured learning, on-the-job training, and mentorship from our senior team members.
What you’ll do:
- Assist with design and specification for a range of fit-out and refurbishment projects.
- Produce technical drawings and schematics for m&e systems.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with pre-construction, operations, and project delivery teams to ensure all electrical designs are aligned with client and project requirements.
- Prepare electrical drawings using Revit MEP.
- Support technical documentation and quoting preparation.
Apprenticeship Training
- You will complete the Design Technician Apprenticeship, which typically includes:
- Structured off-the-job learning (minimum 20% of working time).
- Study towards a Higher National Certificate (HNC) or equivalent qualification in Engineering.
Training will be delivered through a combination of college learning, online study and workplace training.
As a Design Technician Apprentice, you will:
- Work towards a recognised Engineering qualification (such as Level 3 or Level 4 Apprenticeship, depending on entry level).
- Receive mentorship from experienced Senior Engineering Designers.
- Gain exposure to real design and construction projects.
- Develop both technical engineering knowledge and commercial awareness.
On successful completion of the apprenticeship, there may be opportunities to progress into a Junior Design Engineer or Design Engineer role within the company.
Requirements:
- GCSEs including Maths and English (Grade 4/C or above).
- A Levels, T Level, BTEC or equivalent in a STEM subject (Maths, Physics, Engineering or similar).
- Strong interest in electrical engineering and design.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Basic IT skills and willingness to learn design software.
