As Improvement Engineer for a production area, you won’t just maintain equipment — you’ll lead the charge in making it better. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you’ll be the go-to authority for your area, driving performance, reliability, and innovation across both GMP and non-GMP assets.
We’re looking for someone who’s not satisfied with quick fixes. You’ll ask why a failure occurred, dig deep into root causes, and implement solutions that prevent recurrence. Your mindset should be one of continuous improvement , always seeking smarter, safer, and more efficient ways to work.
This is a leadership role without direct reports — ideal for someone who leads by example, takes full ownership and accountability , and collaborates cross-functionally to deliver results. You’ll influence others, guide technical direction, and champion best practices in maintenance and reliability.
Key responsibilities:
- Technical leadership of your designated area(s), ensuring equipment performance and driving improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with Maintenance & Reliability, Operations and Quality teams to guide the efforts of assigned technical resources as needed.
- Lead comprehensive root cause analyses and implement robust corrective and preventive actions.
- Design, execute, and continuously improve maintenance programs and SOPs to maximize equipment uptime and efficiency.
- Apply reliability-centred maintenance, predictive tools, and condition monitoring to optimize asset performance.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with service providers, including regular supplier performance reviews.
Knowledge, skills and experience:
- Proven experience in a similar engineering role within manufacturing — pharma, FMCG or food sectors preferred, with experience determining route cause to complex manufacturing problems
- Proven record of delivering improvements in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Experience in utilising various continuous improvement tools and methodologies
- Completed engineering apprenticeship with further education (HNC/HND or higher preferred).
- A proactive, action-oriented mindset with the ability to influence, challenge, and lead
- Curious – enjoys finding the why and ensuring prevention for the future
