We're looking for a Senior Ecologist to join our team in Cambridge. Could this be you? This is a great opportunity to play a key role in shaping ecological outcomes on a high-profile DCO project, providing specialist support across both non-intrusive and intrusive surveys, and influencing design and environmental impact assessment from the outset.
Location: Cambridge – regular office presence required, with some flexibility for hybrid working
Hours: Permanent, full-time (42 hours per week). Condensed hours and some flexibility can be considered – just let us know what works for you
We are unable to offer certificates of sponsorship for this role
What will you be responsible for?
As a Senior Ecologist, you'll primarily be site-based, taking on the role of Lead Ecological Clerk of Works. You'll lead a team of ecologists on site, overseeing the delivery of ecological mitigation and ensuring all works are carried out in line with legislation, planning conditions, and environmental management plans.
Your day-to-day will include:
- Acting as the main on-site contact for ecological matters, coordinating activities and supporting the wider ecology team
- Identifying ecological constraints early and providing practical, workable solutions that enable progress while maintaining compliance
- Overseeing contractor activities to ensure alignment with environmental management plans, SSSI consents and protected species licences
- Carrying out pre-construction checks, site inspections and quality reviews of ecological documentation
- Delivering site inductions and toolbox talks, helping to embed environmental best practice across the project
What are we looking for?
This role of Senior Ecologist is ideal for someone who:
- Has a degree in ecology (or a related discipline) and holds membership with CIEEM or an equivalent professional body
- Brings solid experience operating at Senior Ecologist level, including working closely with contractors and managing licence compliance
- Has hands-on experience delivering protected species surveys (including badgers, nesting birds and reptiles) and working in sensitive environments such as SSSIs
- Is confident communicating complex ecological information clearly and effectively to a range of stakeholders
- Enjoys working autonomously on site, making informed decisions and finding practical, proportionate solutions to ecological challenges
