3D Artist & Texture Artist

Status: Accepting applications — awaiting seed funding close before formal offers

About the Role

You will define the visual identity of multiple distinct spacefaring factions, each with unique ship designs that communicate culture and technology level at a glance.

This is game-ready hard-surface asset production — spacecraft, vehicles, and mechanical structures only. Every polygon is placed deliberately. Ships range from fighters to capital vessels, all optimised for real-time rendering at scale.

This is not:

Character modelling, creature design, or organic sculpting
Environment art, terrain, or architectural world-building
Rendering specialism, lighting, VFX, or cinematics
Concept art or illustration

This is:

Hard-surface modelling for RTS and space-strategy games
Low-to-mid poly game-ready assets with clean topology
PBR texturing for real-time engines
Ships that read clearly at extreme distances and during seamless zoom

Quality benchmark: Your portfolio should demonstrate work comparable in technical execution and design clarity to Grafxbox(https://www.artstation.com/grafxbox). We are looking for that standard of hard-surface mechanical design — precise, functional, and immediately readable.

Relevant reference titles: Command & Conquer, StarCraft, Sins of a Solar Empire, Homeworld, Stellaris — units that communicate faction identity through silhouette and surface detail alone.

Responsibilities

Model and texture ship designs across multiple factions
Establish art pipeline: modelling standards, UV conventions, texture budgets
Create LOD chains for seamless zoom transitions
Collaborate on faction visual identity and lore
Optimise for engine performance
Maintain style guide for future artists

Requirements

Essential:

Exceptional portfolio demonstrating hard-surface vehicle or spaceship modelling
Hand-placed polygon work (not sculpt-based)
Experience in the low-to-mid poly range
PBR texturing proficiency
Multiple LOD level creation for real-time rendering
3+ years professional game art experience
Proficiency in Blender, Maya, or 3ds Max
Proficiency in Substance Painter, Photoshop, or equivalent
UK-based or willing to relocate

Desirable:

Procedural or modular asset generation experience
Shader creation ability
Concept art skills
Science fiction worldbuilding interest
Version control experience for art assets

Portfolio Requirements

Your portfolio must include:

At least 10 original spaceship or hard-surface vehicle designs (not variations of the same base model — distinct silhouettes, distinct faction identities)
Evidence of sustained output: 50+ completed hard-surface designs across your career (show range, not just your 3 best pieces)
Clean topology with deliberate edge flow for deformation and detailing
PBR texturing with material definition (panel lines, greebles, wear patterns)
Multiple LOD levels showing how detail scales down
In-engine or real-time renders (not just offline raytraced beauty shots)

We are specifically looking for artists whose work matches the quality and style of top-tier sci-fi vehicle assets — mechanically plausible, visually distinctive, and optimised for real-time use. This is a permanent role for a game with years of content ahead; we need evidence you can produce volume, not just one-off pieces.
