Part-Time Groundskeeper & Estate Gardener

About the Role
We're looking for a practical, reliable and self-motivated Groundskeeper & Estate Assistant to help care for a beautiful private rural estate in Ansty, West Sussex.
This is a varied, hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in maintaining high standards, and is happy managing their own workload with minimal supervision. No two days will be the same, with responsibilities ranging from grounds maintenance and gardening to supporting the day-to-day running of the estate.
You'll play an important part in creating and maintaining gardens and outdoor spaces that support nature, biodiversity and wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
- Mowing lawns and maintaining grassed areas
- Strimming, edging and hedge trimming
- Watering gardens, vegetable beds and greenhouses
- Weeding, planting and mulching
- Caring for vegetable gardens and greenhouse crops
- Leaf clearing and seasonal grounds maintenance
- Basic tree care
- Keeping paths, driveways and outdoor areas tidy
- Monitoring and maintaining irrigation systems
- Operating a small tractor and other estate equipment
- Assisting with light farming activities as required
- Helping care for the estate's animals, including goats, chickens and ducks when needed
- Carrying out basic DIY, repairs and general estate maintenance
- Helping ensure the estate is well presented throughout the year
About You
We're looking for someone who:
- Has experience in grounds maintenance, gardening, farming or estate maintenance
- Is practical, hands-on and enjoys a varied role
- Is comfortable operating machinery such as a small tractor (or willing to learn)
- Is confident around livestock and happy helping care for animals when required
- Can carry out basic DIY and maintenance tasks
- Works well independently and manages their own workload
- Uses initiative, solves problems and takes pride in producing high-quality work
- Is reliable, trustworthy and conscientious
- Is physically fit and enjoys working outdoors in all seasons
