The Production Controller will be responsible for coordinating production schedules, managing material availability, raising and controlling purchase orders, and supporting the smooth flow of manufacturing operations.
This role requires strong experience with MRP systems (Sage 200 preferred), production planning, stock control, and purchasing within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
The ideal candidate will be highly organised, detail-oriented, and capable of working closely with production, engineering, suppliers, and logistics teams to ensure operational efficiency and customer delivery targets are achieved.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate production schedules to meet customer delivery requirements.
- Use MRP to manage production planning, works orders, stock control, and material requirements.
- Raise and manage purchase orders for raw materials, components, and subcontract services.
- Liaise with suppliers to monitor lead times, deliveries, pricing, and order status.
- Monitor stock levels and ensure material availability to support production schedules.
- Maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings, and inventory data within the ERP/MRP system.
- Work closely with production, engineering, sales, to ensure smooth operational flow.
- Track and update production progress, identifying and resolving shortages or scheduling issues.
- Support capacity planning and workload scheduling of manufacturing operations.
- Assist with supplier performance monitoring and cost control activities.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve planning efficiency, stock accuracy, and operational performance.
- Ensure purchasing and production documentation is maintained accurately and in line with company procedures.
- Assist with goods inward coordination and inventory management where required.
- Support compliance with quality standards, health & safety procedures, and company processes.
Essential Experience & Skills
- Proven experience in a Production Controller, Production Planner, Materials Controller, or Purchasing role within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Strong experience using MRP / ERP systems in a manufacturing environment.

- Experience within precision engineering, fabrication, aerospace, defence, or industrial manufacturing sectors.
- Understanding of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement processes.
- Knowledge of ISO quality systems.
- HNC/HND qualification in Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, related discipline and relevant experience will also be considered.
