We specialise in acting for high net-worth individuals, many of whom are based in London and across the Home Counties, as well as internationally. We are experts in all areas of family law, including divorce and finances, children, and nuptial agreements, often acting in relation to high profile and complex cases.
We are seeking a self-motivated, hard-working and organised trainee solicitor to join our busy and growing firm. You must be available to work from our Newbury office and ideally would have previous legal experience and be able to work full-time (flexible working requests will be considered).
We are looking for someone who has either completed the LPC or SQE1 and SQE2
Job Description
Job Title: Trainee Solicitor, office based
Working hours: Full-time preferred (flexible working requests will be considered). Office hours are Monday – Friday 9am to 5.30pm
Remuneration: We offer a competitive salary depending on experience plus other benefits including pension, bonus and additional days holiday at Christmas. The salary range for trainee solicitors is £40,000 - £45,000 per annum.
Job prospects: There are opportunities to join the firm on qualification as a solicitor, for suitable candidates
Your initial responsibilities would include: preparation of legal documents as required, creating and helping co-ordinate bundles and assisting fee-earners with fee earning tasks. You will be liaising with clients in a timely, professional and courteous manner. Sometimes you will need to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
As a trainee solicitor you will get the chance to attend court hearings, conferences with counsel and other meetings. You will assist with court preparation and be involved in the day to day running of a case. You will work directly with the partners and learn from their experience. You will have the opportunity to build strong client relationships with clients and other professionals.
Desirable Skills/Attributes
· You are required to have passed both your GDL and LPC or both SQE1 and SQE2 before the proposed start date of the training contract.
· A family law elective as part of the degree or LPC is desirable.
· An interest in pursuing a career in Family Law is essential.
· The ability to work independently with initiative, discretion and confidentiality.
· You must be able to demonstrate professionalism, client discretion and observe confidentiality.
· Strong organisational skills are essential, with the ability to prioritise, be flexible as required and take ownership of tasks.
· Your ability to stay calm and work well under pressure is essential.
· You should have excellent attention to detail and time management skills, with high regard for deadlines.
· You should demonstrate a proficiency in MS Packages including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook and willingness to learn how to use the firm’s document management and other systems.
· We are looking for someone who will be a collaborative team member with the ability to build relationships with a wide range of people.
· You will need to demonstrate strong drafting skills and able to communicate effectively and courteously both internally and externally.
· A team player, with a “can do” attitude and the ability to quickly build relationships with a wide range of people is key to this role.
