We are seeking a Trust Grade Doctor to join our inpatient ward based at Applewood, Sandalwood Court, Swindon. This is a newly created post as part of a review of the medical establishment on the ward.
This post provides support and clinical assistance to the consultant psychiatrist with regards to the care of patients on the ward.
This is a well-supported post where a Trust Grade doctor can gain a great deal of experience and knowledge working within an established multi-disciplinary team treating a great range of acutely unwell patients.
The post holder will find opportunity to develop their careers within an environment where education and development are encouraged, and where there is scope for the role to evolve. There is the opportunity to enhance knowledge about the legal aspects of psychiatric care.
Although this post is not recognized for training, there will be one hour of protected supervision with the supervising Consultant each week. There are also weekly journal clubs and academic meetings the post holder can attend.

Clerking new admissions to Applewood Ward, including full history, physical examination, and initial assessments. Ordering and reviewing blood tests and completing all required physical health checks. Monitoring physical health and ensuring timely follow‑up of results and actions. Preparing for and attending ward reviews, contributing accurate clinical information for MDT decision‑making. Reviewing mental state and risks between ward rounds and documenting changes promptly. Liaising with key workers and other professionals to support coordinated inpatient care. Preparing discharge summaries and communicating with GPs to ensure safe transitions of care. Accurately documenting all clinical encounters and ward reviews in line with trust standards. Supporting Foundation Year doctors with day to day clinical tasks and guidance. Providing day to day support to senior clinicians, ensuring timely assessments and continuity of care. Offering cross‑cover. Training in administering ECT and attending GWH twice weekly to administer ECT with support from the ECT team.
