About Apex Specialist Education
Apex Specialist Education is a specialist independent secondary school and alternative provision supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and additional barriers to learning. We provide highly personalised education within a trauma-informed environment, enabling pupils to re-engage with learning, build confidence and achieve recognised qualifications.
Our ambitious curriculum combines academic and vocational pathways, ensuring every learner has the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to succeed in education, employment and adult life.
Overview
We are seeking a passionate, skilled and motivated Barbering Teacher to join our growing team.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong barbering industry experience who is passionate about sharing their knowledge and helping young people develop practical skills and confidence. Whilst teaching experience is desirable, it is not essential. We welcome applications from experienced barbers who are looking to move into education, and full support will be provided. Applicants who are also able to deliver some hairdressing sessions would be at an advantage, although this is not essential.
The role will be primarily based at our Rochdale site but will also involve travelling to our other education centres in Altrincham and Stockport, as well as delivering occasional one-to-one sessions within the community where appropriate. Due to the nature of the role, a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential.
You will primarily deliver engaging practical and theoretical barbering lessons, with the opportunity to deliver some hairdressing sessions where appropriate. You will adapt your teaching to meet the individual needs of students with SEND and SEMH needs, helping them achieve recognised vocational qualifications while developing confidence, independence and employability skills.

- Promote high expectations for attendance, behaviour and engagement.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, therapists and external professionals to support each student's individual learning journey.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to reports, reviews and annual education meetings where required.
- Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and ensure the welfare of all pupils is always paramount.
- Follow Apex Specialist Education's policies, procedures and values in all aspects of your work.
- Maintain confidentiality and act with professionalism and integrity at all times.
