Eluceda is a growing high-tech company developing innovative technologies for product and brand authentication, and chemical and biological detection. With sites in Burnley, York and Washington State, US, we work with leading global customers to deliver trusted solutions that help protect products, people and supply chains.
We are looking for a motivated and methodical Research and Development Scientist to join our growing team. This is a hands-on laboratory role supporting the development of next-generation electrochemical biosensors and test kits, from early-stage concept through to scale-up, qualification and manufacture.
About the role
You will work alongside scientists, engineers and production colleagues to plan and carry out laboratory experiments, generate reliable data, troubleshoot technical challenges and help turn promising technologies into practical commercial products.
This role would suit someone with strong practical laboratory experience, excellent attention to detail and a genuine interest in applied science, sensor development and problem-solving. You may hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline, or have built equivalent expertise through hands-on laboratory work.
What you’ll be doing
· Developing, testing and supporting the scale-up of electrochemical sensors and test kits.
· Carrying out laboratory experiments in line with Good Laboratory Practice, Standard Operating Procedures and internal quality standards.
· Generating, recording, analysing and presenting high-quality experimental data.
· Using electrochemical readers, including Eluceda’s E-Sens device, to support R&D activities.
· Preparing clear reports and presentations to communicate findings and support project decisions.
· Troubleshooting technical challenges and suggesting improvements to workflows, methods and sensor performance.
· Maintaining a clean, organised and safe laboratory environment.
What we’re looking for
Essential skills and experience
· Laboratory experience in a research, industrial or academic setting.
· A strong understanding of Good Laboratory Practice and safe working procedures.
· Ability to follow SOPs, written instructions and established workflows accurately.
· Excellent attention to detail with a methodical and organised approach.
· Confident user of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
· Able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
· Clear communication skills and a positive, solution-focused approach.
· A proactive, curious mindset and willingness to learn new techniques.
Desirable skills and experience
· Experience with electrochemical biosensors, including fabrication, testing or data interpretation.
· Knowledge of electrochemical techniques such as voltammetry, amperometry or electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.
· Experience applying proteins to sensor surfaces, including immobilisation or surface-preparation methods.
Salary and benefits
Competitive salary, dependent on experience.
25 days’ annual leave plus public holidays.
Why join Eluceda?
· Work on meaningful technologies with real-world applications in authentication, detection and supply-chain protection.
· Join a growing company with ambitious plans and opportunities to contribute directly to product development.
· Collaborate with experienced scientists, engineers and innovators across multiple sites.
· Be part of a supportive team culture where ideas, curiosity and practical problem-solving are valued.
Eluceda is committed to building an inclusive workplace and welcomes applications from candidates with different backgrounds and experiences. If you are excited by the role and meet most of the criteria, we would be pleased to hear from you.
