The Company:
Luminous Show Technology is an award-winning engineering company specialising in the design and manufacture of advanced special effects systems for the global entertainment industry.
From large-scale flame systems and atmospheric effects to bespoke mechanical and water-based installations, our equipment is used on productions, attractions and live experiences worldwide where reliability, safety and repeatability are critical.
Our work combines mechanical, electrical and control engineering with rapid problem solving, product development and real-world deployment in demanding environments.
Founded in 2017, Luminous has grown rapidly through a strong engineering-led culture focused on innovation, practical delivery and continual improvement. In 2026, the company received a King’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation in recognition of its engineering achievements and product development.
The Role:
We are seeking a highly capable CAD Draughtsperson to support a series of major new projects. These projects involve bespoke electromechanical products created for individual productions, often with short, immovable deadlines.
This role focusses on producing clear, accurate and manufacturable technical drawings, building three-dimensional models and generating client ready output using both SolidWorks 3D and 2D drafting tools and AutoCAD. The role also requires the candidate to support engineers with drawing updates, detailing, documentation and layout interpretation. You will work closely with the engineering team to translate concepts, sketches and existing models into precise 3D and 2D outputs suitable for fabrication, assembly and client coordination.
This is a practical, detail-driven role at the heart of our project delivery team, where clarity, accuracy and pace are essential.
This role is offered on a 18-month, fixed-term contract and will be subject to the successful completion of a 6-month probationary review.
Main Responsibilities:
CAD Modelling and Drawing Production
· Create and update 3D CAD models in SolidWorks, typically based on engineer-supplied concepts or existing assemblies, for bespoke electro-mechanical products.
· Produce accurate, detailed and clear 2D manufacturing drawings to support fabrication and assembly.
· Prepare drawing packs, BOMs and supporting documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
· Generate diagrams, layouts and technical illustrations for manuals and engineering documentation.
· Maintain drawing revisions throughout the project lifecycle as requirements evolve.
Engineering & Project Support
· Work closely with engineers to translate design intent into manufacturable drawings.
· Ensure drawings reflect practical constraints, fabrication methods and assembly requirements.
· Provide timely drawing outputs to meet project-driven deadlines.
· Support rapid design iterations during fast-moving project phases.
Collaboration and Communication
· Interpret client-supplied 2D drawings, venue layouts and architectural information.
· Provide CAD outputs in a variety of common output formats.
· Liaise with internal teams and external suppliers to ensure alignment on design intent and technical requirements.
· Communicate clearly and proactively regarding design changes, risks or constraints.
Practical Engineering Support
· Support hands‑on engineering activities where required, including prototype builds, test fits and design validation.
· Ensure all drawings comply with Luminous safety, documentation and quality standards.
About You:
You will thrive in this role if you are:
· Highly experienced in SolidWorks, with at least 2 years’ professional use in a design, manufacturing or engineering environment. Skills focus on 3D modelling, weldment assemblies and sheet-metalwork are preferred.
· Confident producing clear, accurate technical drawings for fabrication and assembly.
· Confident working with AutoCAD to interpret client drawings, venue plans and architectural layouts.
· Comfortable working to tight, immovable deadlines in a fast-paced project environment.
· Highly organised, with strong attention to detail and excellent engineering communication skills.
· Able to work autonomously, use your initiative and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
· Practically minded, with some hands-on engineering experience would be beneficial.
· Familiar with BIM-based workflows (e.g. providing models for client BIM integration) (desirable but not essential).
· Experienced with document management systems (e.g. version control, drawing registers, structured file naming), ensuring accurate tracking, retrieval and governance of technical documentation (desirable but not essential).
· Experienced in bespoke, one-off engineering builds or entertainment-based projects (desirable but not essential).
