Axis Counselling is a charity which has been supporting survivors of sexual abuse for over 30 years. We support adults and children aged from 5 years and over, plus family members and loved ones. We currently provide services via our five departments: Counselling; Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) Service; Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) Service; Complex Care Pathfinder and Training/ Education.

To work within a multi-agency setting to provide a pro-active service to victims of sexual violence within and outside of the criminal justice system to:
- Risk assess and help clients keep safe
- Help clients access their rights
- Help clients access health and other services they require
- Inform new clients about Axis’ services, identify which service is most appropriate for them at that time and triage their referral.
The successful applicant will be required to understand and operate within the Axis organisation’s policies, procedures and guidelines and work to the principles of equal opportunities.
This post is subject to a satisfactory Enhanced DBS check.
KEY TASKS
All clients
- Act as first point of contact for the Axis’ Sexual Violence Services (ISVA, Counselling and Pathfinder), triaging and managing referrals coming in
- Contact clients in line with expected timeframes and support as necessary
- Explain Axis’ Sexual Violence Service and the various support offers
- Answer any initial questions and arrange a telephone-based needs assessment prior to the allocation of a service/worker
- Undertake needs and risk assessment with client/non abusive loved one
- Develop individual support plan to address risks/support needs of client
- Identify areas of need, providing early intervention support and advocacy where appropriate e.g writing advocacy letters, making onward referrals, explaining the criminal justice system and reporting options, identifying safeguarding concerns and acting appropriately, signposting clients to other services to which they are entitled e.g sexual health services
- Flag clients according to a RAG system
- Identify with the client which support offer is most appropriate for them at that time
- Explain consent and confidentiality, ensuring these are completed and sent back within a timely manner
- Manage queries from other professionals and service users about Axis.
- Communicate with client/agencies using e-mail, letter and non-therapeutic telephone support where appropriate
- Explain criminal, legal and, if relevant, civil remedies and housing options to clients
- Where relevant, keep referrers informed about important changes in client’s situation
- Adopting a ‘whole family’ approach, exploring if anyone else in the family needs support due to the sexual violence/abuse and make referrals as required with consent.
- Be able to work in an efficient manner, being mindful of timescales needed within the role.
- Liaise internally with Managers to ensure the client is receiving the appropriate support at that time
