Full-time Nursery Assistant – 40 hours per week
8am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday
Our nursery grows over 1 million plants annually and they are grown exclusively for our three Perrywood stores. The nursery includes a propagation house and a modern warehouse housing a potting machine, transplanter and seeder.
Key duties
- Carrying out roles as required to produce plants in our nursery.
- Operating nursery machinery such as potting machine, seeder and transplanting machine
- Moving stock around – manually and with machinery
- General maintenance and plant care – could include watering and irrigation, weeding, pruning, propagation, cleaning etc.
- Labeling of products, grading and sorting plants as required
- Pest and disease control in greenhouses, and across wider garden centre. Could include spraying, biological pest control and rodent control
- Assisting in retail areas e.g. moving plants and stocking up, labelling, cleaning
The above is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the organisation.
Your capabilities
- Ability to work both inside and outside in varied weather conditions
- You must be able to bend, lift and pull/push trolleys and barrows
- Ability to work as a member of a team, and able to operate in a fast paced commercial facility
- A keen interest in plants and related products, and current experience of growing within a commercial environment
Requirements
- Experience of working in a production nursery, Garden Centre or similar environment is essential
- Good communication skills essential
- As part of this role when assisting in bedding plant department you will be required to weargloves (Personal Protective Equipment, or PPE) when handling certain crops which may be for large parts of the day
- 1 day a month at the weekend on a rota basis
Working with
- Report to Nursery Production Manager
- Work closely with Nursery Assistants and Plant Area Assistants
- Occasionally work with other supervisors and office staff
