Full job description

About the Role
We are looking for a reliable and motivated Kitchen Assistant to join our care home team. The successful candidate will support the kitchen in preparing and serving nutritious, high-quality meals for our residents while maintaining excellent hygiene and safety standards.

As many of our residents require modified diets, it is essential that applicants have a basic understanding of IDDSI levels (International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative) and the importance of safely preparing and serving texture-modified meals for individuals with swallowing difficulties.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with the preparation and serving of meals for residents
Support the preparation of texture-modified foods and thickened drinks in line with IDDSI guidelines
Maintain high standards of kitchen cleanliness and food hygiene
Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment
Follow food safety, infection control, and health & safety procedures
Work closely with the cook and care team to ensure residents’ dietary needs are met

Requirements

Previous experience in a kitchen or catering role is desirable
Basic knowledge or understanding of IDDSI levels and modified diets
Awareness of food hygiene and safety standards
Ability to work well as part of a team
Reliable, organised, and willing to learn
Food Hygiene Certificate (preferred but not essential)
