Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and experienced driver to join our family business based in Ardleigh, CO7 7LT. The successful candidate will be responsible for safely operating a 3.5T and 7.5T flatbed vehicle to deliver goods efficiently and on time. They will also use a truck and trailer set up to deliver machinery and plant up to 3T in weight. This role requires a professional approach to driving and excellent organisational skills. The ideal applicant will possess a valid driving licence, HGV Class 2 and experience in driving, and familiarity with flatbed vehicles. Experience or knowledge of the construction, aggregate and plant industry would be hugely beneficial. The ideal candidate must to have a valid in date CPC card, have experience in using a digital tachograph as these are in our larger lorries and know the rules around tachographs, driving hours etc.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate a 3.5T and 7.5T vehicle with a tachograph for scheduled deliveries and collections. Also operate a truck and trailer for delivering machinery and plant with GVW of 7.5T.
- Plan routes effectively to meet delivery deadlines and optimise fuel efficiency
- Load and unload goods securely, ensuring proper handling and safety procedures are followed.
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections before and after journeys, reporting any defects or issues.
- Maintain accurate delivery documentation and logs in accordance with company policies.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams and clients regarding delivery schedules or delays.
- Adhere strictly to all road safety regulations and company policies during driving duties.
Requirements
- Valid UK driving licence with a minimum of HGV 2 entitlement and a valid up to date CPC qualification.
- Digital Tachograph card and willingness and ability to use defect reporting Apps.
- Proven experience in commercial driving, particularly with flatbed vehicles or similar lorries.
- Delivery driver experience is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of road safety regulations and best practices for safe vehicle operation
- Ability to load, secure, and unload goods efficiently and safely.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan routes effectively.
- Good communication skills for liaising with clients and team members.
- Physical fitness to handle loading/unloading of loads including fencing and long periods of driving.
- Experience in loading and unloading plant up to 3T and knowledge in safe loading and securing.
- Loading of the vehicles with aggregate will require the use of a telehandler, so the ability or willingness to learn to use a telehandler and weighloader will be an advantage.
- Over 25 years of age for insurance reasons.
- Excellent timekeeping and attendance record.
Hours 7.00 am to 5.00 pm Monday to Friday - Drivers & working time breaks. Possible overtime on Saturday if so desired.

Holiday Entitlement - 28 days including bank holidays
Pay: Up to £15.00 per hour based on experience.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for experienced drivers seeking a professional position within a dynamic aggregate and plant company. As this is a family business, the ideal candidate will be willing to aid with other duties when deliveries are quieter, for example helping the yardman with stock control or manufacturing of fencing materials.
Pay: £13.50-£15.00 per hour
Expected hours: 50.0 per week
