About the Role
Are you a technically-minded designer who wants to see their creations go from a screen to the workshop floor?
We are a high-end bespoke joinery workshop looking for a CAD Designer to join our team. We are completely open to hiring an ambitious Junior Designer with strong foundational skills, or a Mid-Weight Designer looking for their next challenge.
This is not an interior design role creating renders & mood boards. While you will absolutely get to flex your creative muscles on every project, you will also be responsible for seeing those projects through to manufacture. You will bridge the gap between beautiful aesthetics and precise workshop production, learning how to turn a creative concept into an exact, buildable reality. This role is a big part of a small team.
For the right Junior candidate, we will provide dedicated training to fast-track you into a confident Mid-Weight position, with clear salary reviews as your technical capabilities grow.
Core Responsibilities once at mid-weight position
- Concept to Creation: Produce high-quality 2D and 3D drawings, transitioning from initial client concepts to precise technical manufacturing plans.
- Workshop Collaboration: Work alongside our bench joiners to resolve fabrication queries and ensure designs match manufacturing constraints.
- Parametric & Data Management: Help develop internal design templates, parametric workflows, and manage hardware/material data using Google Workspace.
- Client Facing: Confidently communicate with clients over email and in person to refine designs.
- The Future Path (CNC/CAM): Learn (or develop your existing knowledge of) CAM programming and nesting software to link your 3D models directly to our CNC router.
What We Are Looking For
- Software Essentials: Deep proficiency or strong foundational experience in Autodesk Fusion and SketchUp is non-negotiable.
- The "Maker" Mindset: An understanding of (or a deep desire to learn) furniture construction, cabinetry, and bespoke joinery methods.
- Growth Appetite: A willingness to learn CAM/CNC workflows and master parametric cabinet design (training provided).
- Precision & Problem Solving: Exceptional attention to detail. In a bespoke workshop, a millimetre matters.
- Organised & Self-Motivated: The ability to juggle multiple projects and manage your own time efficiently.
Desirable (But Not Essential) Extras
- Experience using Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, or specialized woodworking CAM plugins.
- Prior experience in high-end, bespoke kitchen design.
- Experience managing hardware data, material specifications, and cutting lists.
What We Offer
- Salary: £24,000 – £38,000 dependent on your current age + experience.
- Real Career Progression: A structured path from Junior to Mid-Weight with salary reviews tied directly to your development.
- Industry-Specific Training: Hands-on training in CAM programming, CNC manufacturing, and advanced parametric design.
- Great Environment: A positive, collaborative, and quality-driven workshop team.
- Further CV development: First Aid, Fire Marshall, H&S certification
How to Apply & Our Process
Please send your CV alongside a portfolio demonstrating your 3D modeling and technical drawing capabilities.
Our Interview Process: Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an initial interview. Successful candidates from the first stage will be invited back for a second interview/practical session. This will involve sitting down with us to carry out a live design session and execute a first-round revision on a simulated project, letting you showcase your software skills and design thinking in real-time.
Intended start date August/September. Applications close July 1st.
