Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced and commercially minded Credit Controller to join our growing business within the fuel industry. This is a key role responsible for managing a high-value customer ledger within a fast-paced, high-turnover environment. You will take full ownership of the collections process, balancing effective debt recovery with the maintenance of strong customer relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of a large, high-value customer ledger, ensuring timely and consistent cash collection
- Proactively chase outstanding debt via phone and email, demonstrating a confident and assertive approach
- Conduct thorough credit reviews for new and existing customers, assessing financial risk and setting appropriate credit limits
- Monitor aged debt and identify high-risk accounts, escalating where necessary to senior management
- Negotiate payment plans where required, protecting the company’s financial position
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers to support prompt payment and minimise disputes
- Work closely with the Sales team to resolve account queries and support commercial decision-making
- Liaise with credit insurers and brokers regarding insured limits, overdue debt reporting, and credit limit decisions
- Partner with the Head of Finance on credit risk strategy, including limit reviews and approvals
- Ensure all credit control activity is compliant with internal policies and relevant regulations
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all communications and account activity
Skills & Experience Required
- Significant experience in a credit control role, ideally managing a high-value or complex ledger
- Strong background in credit risk assessment and making informed, commercially sound decisions
- Confident communicator with a professional and assertive telephone manner
- Proven ability to handle challenging conversations and deliver results
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of the credit control function

- £35,000 - £38,000 pa DOE
Pay: £35,000.00-£38,000.00 per year
