Riggotts is a long-established national provider of specialist line marking and associated surface preparation services, operating across the UK for large, multi-site, compliance-led organisations including major retailers, logistics and distribution operators, car park operators and facilities management companies. Part of the Tennants Roads & Construction Group, Riggotts operates alongside businesses in road lining, bitumen supply and building products across the UK and Ireland, employing c.65 people with a fleet of over 35 vehicles and specialist application equipment, and delivering sustainable growth through professionalism, accreditation, reliability and long-term customer relationships.
Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Director to join the Board and lead Riggotts' commercial development. The role is responsible for sustainable profitable growth through strategic customer relationships, business development and commercial performance. Working with the Managing Director, General Manager and Financial Controller the Commercial Director will provide strategic leadership to the Commercial Manager and wider commercial function, using their industry knowledge and network to generate opportunities and strengthen Riggotts' market position.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Leadership
· Provide strategic leadership, coaching and mentoring to the Commercial Manager and wider commercial function, establishing clear objectives, priorities and performance standards.
· Provide strategic direction for the Company's commercial strategy, business development and key customer relationships.
· Develop a high-performing, commercially focused culture aligned with the Company's long-term growth objectives.
Business Development and Customer Relationships
· Develop and implement the Company's commercial growth strategy, securing major business opportunities, framework agreements and strategic accounts.
· Build and maintain senior relationships with key customers, consultants, contractors and other industry stakeholders, personally leading engagement with the Company's most significant customers and strategic prospects.
· Drive sustainable profitable growth by expanding the customer base and strengthening Riggotts' market position, leveraging an established industry network and personal relationships to generate new commercial opportunities.
Market Development
· Set the Company's commercial priorities, target sectors and strategic account strategy.
· Monitor market trends, competitor activity and customer requirements, identifying commercial risks and opportunities.
· Work with external marketing partners to ensure marketing activity supports commercial priorities and business growth.
Commercial Performance
· Develop the Company's commercial planning, pricing strategy and major bid strategy in conjunction with the Managing Director, General Manager and Board
· Review overall sales pipeline performance and provide strategic challenge and direction to the Commercial Manager.
· Work closely with the Finance Controller to deliver agreed commercial and financial objectives.
Essential Criteria
· Demonstrable experience operating at Director or senior commercial leadership level within construction, infrastructure, specialist contracting or a related sector.
· Proven track record of delivering sustainable profitable growth, winning significant new business and securing major commercial opportunities.
· Strong commercial, financial and strategic awareness, with excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
· Proven ability to build senior customer relationships and lead, mentor and develop high-performing commercial teams.
Desirable Criteria
· Experience within line marking, highways, surfacing, infrastructure maintenance or facilities management.
· Established industry network capable of generating commercial opportunities.
· Experience of strategic business development, acquisitions or market expansion.
· Relevant degree or professional qualification in a commercial, business or construction-related discipline.
