Full job description

Salary: Competitive + Additional Benefits

Hours: 32.5 per week

Key Purpose of Role:

An opportunity has arisen for the role of Maintenance Assistant in the student village at Ulster University, Coleraine. The Maintenance Assistant will be responsible for carrying out works required to repair, maintain and improve the residential accommodation and facilities whilst ensuring an excellent customer experience at all times.

Note; successful candidate will be required to attend emergency call-outs on occasion.

Key Responsibilities:

· Performing routine inspections of buildings and systems

· Patch repairs for plaster and painting

· Minor plumbing and joinery repairs

· Changing light bulbs/sockets

· Water temperature checks

· Maintaining water/plumbing systems

· Maintenance of emergency systems e.g. emergency lighting and fire equipment

· Maintain security devices, locks and lights in good working order

· Maintaining the tidiness of the site and grounds

· Occasional cleaning duties may be required

· Adhering to company’s health and safety policies and procedures

· Any other duties reasonably required

The Person/Skills required:

· Strong interpersonal skills

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team

· Effective communication skills

Essential Skills & Experience:

· Demonstrable abilities within building maintenance

· At least 3 years maintenance experience

· Basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems

· Strong trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills

· Manual handling capability as some heavy lifting may be required at times

Desirable Skills & Experience:

· NVQ or equivalent in a relevant subject such as joinery or building

· Maintenance experience in a residential setting

· Understanding of principles of electrical safety

· Understanding of water systems including domestic plumbing and legionella

· Health and safety training or qualifications
