Full job description

Nursery Practitioner Responsibilities (EYFS Practice)

Act as a key person, building secure attachments and promoting children’s emotional wellbeing
Deliver high-quality care routines that support children’s personal development, independence, and self-regulation
Plan, implement, and evaluate a broad and balanced EYFS curriculum, informed by children’s interests and developmental needs
Provide rich learning opportunities through play, adult-led, and child-initiated experiences
Support children’s communication and language, including early speech, listening, and attention skills
Promote positive behaviour using consistent, developmentally appropriate strategies
Observe, assess, and record children’s learning accurately, using assessments to inform next steps
Ensure the learning environment is well-organised, stimulating, and supports all areas of learning
Work in partnership with parents and carers, sharing information about children’s progress and wellbeing

SENDCo Responsibilities (Leadership & Inclusion)

Lead and coordinate SEND provision in line with the EYFS and SEND Code of Practice
Identify and assess children with additional needs at the earliest opportunity
Develop, implement, and review individual support plans, ensuring reasonable adjustments are in place
Support early intervention strategies and contribute to EHCP processes where appropriate
Work closely with key persons, parents/carers, and external agencies to support positive outcomes
Provide guidance, coaching, and training to staff to strengthen inclusive practice
Monitor and evaluate the impact of SEND support to ensure children make progress from their starting points
Support smooth transitions within the nursery and into school settings

Behaviour, Attitudes & Personal Development

Create a calm, nurturing, and inclusive environment where children feel safe and valued
Support children’s personal, social and emotional development (PSED)
Encourage independence, resilience, and confidence
Promote British Values, Prevent Duty, equality, and respect for diversity through everyday practice

Safeguarding, Health & Safety

Maintain a strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
Act promptly on any concerns, following nursery and statutory guidance
Promote a culture of safeguarding and welfare across the setting
Share responsibility for health, safety, hygiene, and risk assessments
Maintain high standards of cleanliness and infection control

Leadership, Professional Practice & Ofsted Readiness

Model high-quality practice in line with Ofsted expectations
Contribute to self-evaluation, reflective practice, and continuous improvement
Maintain accurate documentation and records to support inspection
Support colleagues through mentoring and professional dialogue

Qualifications & Training

Full and relevant Level 3 Early Years qualification (essential)
Paediatric First Aid Level 3 (essential – training can be provided)
Secure knowledge of the EYFS Statutory Framework
Manchester City SENDCo trained or willingness to undertake SENDCo training
Commitment to ongoing professional development
