The Role
As a Play Assistant, you will be one of the first friendly faces our customers see. This is a varied role where no two days are the same. You will help prepare food and drinks, welcome families, keep the café and play village looking spotless, support birthday parties, and help create the warm, relaxed atmosphere that makes Little Daydreamers special.
Key Responsibilities
- Customer Service: Welcome families, handle check-ins/bookings, answer questions professionally, and build relationships with regular visitors to ensure every customer has a fantastic experience.
- Café Operations: Prepare hot/cold drinks and light food, operate the till, clear and clean tables, wash crockery, restock supplies, and maintain high standards of hygiene.
- Play Village Maintenance: Keep role-play areas clean and inviting throughout the day, reset each play area between sessions, and inspect toys and equipment for safety or damage.
- Cleaning & Presentation: Maintain exceptional cleanliness in customer areas, toilets, and floors (sweeping/mopping), empty bins regularly, and complete end-of-day cleaning tasks.
- Birthday Parties & Events: Prepare party room, serve food and drinks, support party hosts to ensure celebrations run smoothly, and reset rooms after events.
Health, Safety & Hygiene
- Food Safety: Adhere strictly to food hygiene standards, ensuring food preparation areas are sanitized, correct storage temperatures are monitored, and allergen management rules are followed.
- Play Area Safety: Continuously check play zones for trip/slip hazards, broken equipment, or liquid spills to maintain a secure environment.
- Facility & Chemical Care: Follow COSHH guidelines for safely using and storing cleaning products away from children, and ensure fire exits remain unobstructed at all times.
- Safeguarding & Incident Reporting: Support company safeguarding policies, report hazards immediately, and accurately record any accidents in the incident log.
Safeguarding & Pre-employment Checks
Little Daydreamers is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Parents and carers remain responsible for the supervision of their children at all times.
The successful candidate will be required to complete appropriate pre-employment checks, including proof of right to work in the UK, satisfactory references and a DBS check (if required) at the appropriate level for the role. All employees will complete safeguarding training as part of their induction.
Requirements
Essential:
- Naturally friendly, positive, and approachable with excellent customer service skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to multitask in a busy, fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable and enthusiastic about working in an environment full of young children and families.
- Flexibility to work weekends and school holidays.
Desirable
- Experience in hospitality, retail, early years, or customer service environments.
- Food Hygiene Level 2 Certificate or First Aid qualification.
