We're looking for an experienced mechanical engineer 5 to 10 years into their career who treats engineering as a craft rather than just a job. Someone who owns problems end-to-end, turns them into processes that outlast them, and raises the bar for the team around them.
This isn't a pure CAD role. We need a finisher.
Crossland Tankers Ltd designs and manufactures road tankers for bulk liquid transport across the UK, Ireland and overseas. We're family-owned and run, with manufacturing facilities in Swatragh (Northern Ireland) and Burnley (Lancashire). Our products serve the industrial, foodstuffs, chemical, waste and local authority sectors, meaning our engineers handle real breadth, not the narrow specialism you'd get at a bigger, more siloed manufacturer.
-
5 to 10 years' experience in mechanical engineering
-
BEng essential; MEng desirable
-
Solid 3D CAD background - Creo is a real plus, but any major 3D package (SolidWorks, Inventor, NX, etc.) is fine with the expectation you'll cross-train
-
Experience with hydraulic and/or electric systems
-
Strong on detailed engineering drawing - accuracy matters
-
A background in tanker or trailer manufacturing, pressure vessel work, heavy fabrication, automotive, or process plant equipment is valued
-
Someone who finishes what they start, builds systems that last, and doesn't punt difficult problems upstairs
Competitive mid-senior-level package, including:
-
29 days paid holiday
-
Enhanced pension scheme
-
Free life assurance
-
Training on Creo, Windchill and Navision
-
Genuine personal development and growing responsibility as you establish yourself
About The Role
You'll own engineering problems and projects end-to-end. Concrete examples on the table right now: rolling out a new chassis design and getting ahead of new ADR standards. These aren't side projects, they're the work.
Day-to-day, you'll:
-
Take ownership of regulatory and compliance items and turn them into running processes
-
Design, model and detail mechanical components in Creo, producing the BOMs and drawings the factory needs
-
Participate in design reviews, give meaningful feedback, take ownership of the resulting changes
-
Be the link between engineering and the shop floor, solving the real problems manufacturing flags
-
Liaise with suppliers on new components and customer-driven requirements
-
Drive continuous improvement across the production process alongside factory managers
-
Over time, grow into a hand on the tiller alongside the wider senior engineering team
Bulk liquid transport is a variation on a theme but there's a lot of variations. Pressure vessel design, structural complexity, hydraulic and electric systems, chassis design, and regulatory regimes that vary by sector and geography. The challenge here is breadth as much as depth: you'll need to be comfortable working across a wide range of disciplines rather than buried in one corner.
The role is based at our Swatragh HQ, full-time on-site. We're not a hybrid shop, our manufacturing colleagues can't build tankers from home, and we extend the same expectation to the engineering team.
You should already be living within a sensible commute of Swatragh. We're not in a position to relocate candidates for this role.
Expect roughly 4 days a month of travel, mostly between our Swatragh and Burnley sites with the occasional customer or supplier visit.
Required Criteria
-
Degree/HND in Mechanical Engineering or relevant industrial qualification
-
Experience with PTC Creo or similar 2D/3D packages
-
Technical competence in laying out detailed engineering drawings
-
Legal entitlement to work in the UK
Skills Needed
Problem Solving, Quality Management, Design Engineering, Modelling
About The Company
When we first started out in business back in 1988, we were originally a tanker repair and servicing company, providing maintenance services to local bulk liquid haulage companies.
However, although our resources were modest when we started out, our passion, determination, and ambition to succeed were always there in abundance.
As a result, by the mid-1990s – building on our extensive repairs experience – we began to manufacture our very own tankers for the UK road industry at our factory in Swatragh, trading under the name Crossland Tankers Ltd.
Company Culture
From here, our business grew year-on-year, culminating in the purchase of Massey tankers, in 2003. This not only gave us access to a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, it also gave us a base within the UK mainland.
Today, we employ over 130 people across our two manufacturing sites at Swatragh (Northern Ireland) and Burnley (Lancashire) and are one of the leading tanker manufacturers in the UK and Ireland.
We are proud to have a wide range of customers in Ireland, the UK, the EU, and the Middle East.

We offer our employees a range of benefits including:
Attractive salary based on candidates experience
