About the Role
Athena Activities are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Playworker to join our wraparound care team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in childcare or education who is looking to develop into a leadership or management role within wraparound provision. The successful candidate will be supported to progress into a Wrap Around Manager role as the provision develops.
There is also the opportunity to increase hours during school holidays, with full-time hours (up to 40 per week) available during holiday activity camps.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality care and supervision for children in an after-school club and holiday activity camp setting
- Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment where children feel supported and valued
- Plan and deliver engaging, stimulating, and age-appropriate activities
- Support children’s social, emotional, and physical development
- Build positive relationships with children, parents, school staff, and colleagues
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety, and organisational policies at all times
- Support the smooth day-to-day running of the provision
Progression Opportunity
For the right candidate, this role offers a clear pathway to a Wrap Around Manager position, with responsibilities including:
- Supporting or leading the daily operation of the provision
- Guiding and supporting staff in their roles
- Supporting safeguarding, compliance, and quality assurance
- Contributing to inspections, audits, and continuous improvement
Training, mentoring, and leadership development will be provided.
Essential Requirements
- Level 3 Early Years or Childcare qualification (EYFS-recognised, e.g. NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma for Early Years Educator or equivalent)
- Experience working with children in a play, childcare, school, or wraparound setting
- A genuine passion for working with children and supporting their development
- Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
- A strong understanding of safeguarding responsibilities
Desirable (but not essential)
- Experience supporting or acting in a senior or supervisory role
- Knowledge of EYFS and Ofsted requirements
- Paediatric First Aid qualification
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service
- Full UK driving licence
