Full job description

Trade Counter Assistant – Full-Time 42.5 Hrs, Permanent

We are looking for a punctual, hardworking, and committed team player with a desire to join our Canvey Island team within our trade counter and wholesale distribution business.

The Full-time position is in our fast-paced Canvey Island branch, and you’ll be on your feet, serving customers, picking, packing and doing plenty of bending and lifting, so you’ll need a reasonable level of fitness.

The role requires the following duties.

Serving customers, processing their orders, taking cash & card payments, and dealing with enquiries over the counter.
Picking, checking, packing, labelling, and dispatching of website orders to meet dispatch deadlines.
Condensing stock, and building into pallets to be sent out to branches.
Checking deliveries from suppliers, manually handling boxes and full pallets, replenishing stock locations.
Using equipment to fabricate products from unfinished materials and multiple component parts.
Cleaning and delivering housekeeping standards, contributing to securing health and safety in the work environment.
Individually achieving set targets and by working together with colleagues.
Manual handling must be able to lift and move boxes of up to 20 Kg whilst processing and loading orders.

Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English. Candidates must be computer literate; however, systems training will be provided. Minimum of 1 year of customer-facing experience in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines. Both retail and warehouse experience is beneficial.

The ability to retain product information is essential, along with experience in using computers and the internet. No experience or knowledge of the sign supply industry is required, but customer-facing experience is mandatory. Candidates must have a willingness to learn, as they will be trained in all aspects of the job.

Due to the repetitive, physical nature of the job, applicants must be able to lift and carry boxes of 20 Kg.

Successful candidates will receive a company uniform and appropriate safety equipment and will be enrolled in the company pension scheme.

Hours 42.5 hours per week, working shifts 5 days from 7, Monday to Friday 08:00 am to 17:00 pm (less 30-minute unpaid break).

Salary: £13.75 per hour, including a 3-month probation period.

Closing Date: 31st July 2026, expected start date 1st September 2026
