Care & Therapeutic Support Worker – UASC Specialist Home (11–17 years)
Location: Barnet, North London (EN4)
Salary: £28,080 – £31,200 per annum + £50 per sleep-in (plus standard hourly rate if woken to provide active care)
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent (Part-time options can be discussed)
About Us:
Sunray Sanctuary Group Ltd is opening a brand-new, specialist residential children's home in Barnet dedicated to supporting Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC) aged 11–17. We are recruiting compassionate, resilient, and culturally aware Support Workers to join our founding team and help these young people rebuild safety, stability, and hope as they settle into life in the UK.
The Role:
You will provide day-to-day care, support education and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) learning, build positive relationships, and use trauma-informed approaches.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing key-work support and warm, daily care to young people. Organising meaningful cultural, educational, and recreational activities. Accompanying young people to legal, medical, and social work appointments. Teaching essential independent living skills (cooking, budgeting, life skills). Maintaining strict safeguarding standards and detailed electronic record-keeping.
What We Are Looking For:
While fluent spoken and written English is required for our care compliance paperwork, we highly welcome and prefer candidates who are bilingual or speak languages common to Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC), such as Albanian, Pashto, Dari, Kurdish, Arabic, Tigrinya, or Farsi.
- Experience: Prior experience working with children or vulnerable young people is highly desirable, but passion, transferable skills, and life experience are highly valued. Qualifications: A Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare is a massive bonus, but not essential—we will fully fund you to achieve this qualification within your first two years of employment! Traits: Deep empathy, patience, emotional resilience, and excellent cultural sensitivity. Flexibility: Ability to work a rolling shift pattern including weekends, evenings, and sleep-ins.
What We Offer:
- Competitive Salary: £28,080 – £31,200 per annum (Equivalent to £13.50 per hour starting rate, increasing automatically to £15.00 per hour upon completion of your Level 3 Diploma). Sleep-In Allowance: An additional £50 payment per sleep-in shift. (Note: In the rare event that you are required to wake and provide active care during a sleep-in, those hours are paid at your standard hourly rate equivalent). Training & Development: Full operational induction and specialist, fully funded UASC and trauma-informed training. Progression: Clear career pathways within a growing care provider organisation. Wellbeing: 24/7 Employee Wellbeing & Assistance Support Programme.
Please note: All job offers are strictly subject to an Enhanced DBS check (with Children's Barred List check), satisfactory professional references covering your employment history, and the signing of our standard Pre-Registration & Training Agreement.
