Job Purpose
To provide high-quality support, coaching and guidance to apprentices and employers throughout the apprenticeship journey. The Training Advisor will manage a caseload of apprentices, ensuring effective induction, engagement, progress, attendance, achievement and progression. The role requires strong employer partnership working, regular monitoring and review activities, pastoral support and a commitment to delivering excellent learner outcomes in line with apprenticeship standards and funding requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Apprentice Induction and Onboarding
- Conduct apprentice and employer inductions, ensuring all parties understand programme requirements, expectations and responsibilities
- Complete initial assessments and diagnostics to identify starting points, support needs and development opportunities
- Develop Individual Training Plans (ITPs) and establish clear milestones and achievement targets
- Ensure apprentices understand safeguarding, Prevent, British Values, equality and diversity and health and safety requirements
- Support hairdressing apprentices to access learning platforms, e-portfolios and programme resources
Employer Engagement and Relationship Management
- Act as the primary point of contact for employers throughout the apprenticeship programme
- Build effective relationships with line managers, workplace mentors and supervisors
- Liaise regularly with employers regarding apprentice attendance, engagement, progress and performance
- Conduct employer review meetings and provide progress updates against agreed targets
- Support employers to understand apprenticeship requirements, off-the-job training obligations and End-Point Assessment expectations
- Identify opportunities for progression, workforce development and additional apprenticeship opportunities
Progress Monitoring and Reviews
- Manage a caseload of hairdressing apprentices and maintain accurate records of progress
- Conduct regular progress reviews involving hairdressing apprentices and employers
- Set, review and update SMART targets to ensure timely completion of learning programmes
- Monitor achievement against planned milestones and implement interventions where progress is at risk
- Maintain accurate documentation and evidence in line with funding and quality assurance requirements
- Prepare apprentices for gateway and End-Point Assessment
Attendance and Engagement Tracking
- Monitor apprentice attendance, participation and learning engagement
- Maintain accurate attendance records and identify trends or concerns
- Implement early intervention strategies where attendance or engagement falls below expected levels
- Communicate attendance concerns promptly to apprentices, employers and managers
- Produce reports and updates on attendance, retention and learner performance
Coaching and Development Support
- Provide one-to-one coaching to support apprentices in developing skills, knowledge and behaviours
- Support apprentices to apply learning in the workplace and reflect on their progress
- Motivate hairdressing apprentices to achieve learning goals and maintain momentum throughout their programme
- Deliver information, advice and guidance relating to career progression and future opportunities
- Encourage personal development, resilience and professional behaviours
Pastoral and Learner Support
- Build positive and supportive relationships with hairdressing apprentices
- Identify welfare, wellbeing or personal issues that may affect learning and achievement
- Provide appropriate pastoral support and signposting to specialist services where required
- Ensure safeguarding concerns are reported and managed in accordance with organisational procedures
- Promote an inclusive learning environment where all apprentices can succeed
- Support apprentices to overcome barriers to learning and achievement
Compliance and Quality Assurance
- Ensure all learner records, reviews and documentation are accurate, timely and audit ready
- Maintain compliance with funding rules, apprenticeship standards and internal quality procedures
- Participate in quality assurance activities, standardisation meetings and continuous improvement initiatives
- Contribute to organisational achievement, retention and progression targets
- Keep knowledge and practice up to date with developments in apprenticeships and vocational education
Person Specification
Essential
- Experience working within apprenticeship, further education or work-based learning environments
- Experience of coaching, mentoring or supporting learners
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to manage a caseload and prioritise workload effectively
- Experience of conducting reviews, target setting and progress monitoring
- Excellent IT and record-keeping skills
- Understanding of safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion
- Full driving licence and willingness to travel to employer premises
- Employment is conditional upon a satisfactory Enhanced DBS disclosure.
