Full job description

Camfield Crawley provides temporary accommodation for individuals who are homeless. It has 24 bed sitting rooms within one building and residents can stay for up to 2 years. The staff team helps residents access safe, affordable, and stable follow-on accommodation. Residents are given space, responsibility, and support to make positive choices, with the aim of becoming fully independent within the community. This is achieved through consistent one-to-one keyworker support.

The post holder will join the support team and work with residents to enable them to make informed decisions about their housing, wellbeing, and future goals. The role includes promoting independence, tenancy sustainment, safeguarding, crisis prevention, and partnership-working with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies. Camfield does NOT provide medical or nursing facilities.

The post holder will advocate for residents, reduce barriers to services, uphold dignity and rights, and contribute to delivering support and interventions. This includes using reflective practice to underpin decision-making and maintaining strict client confidentiality in line with Camfield Crawley’s policies.

The role is 20 hours per week, with days and times flexible for the right candidate, with a competitive salary of £32,370 FTE (£17,264 pro rata).

Key Responsibilities

1. Resident Support & Key Working

Deliver person-centred support in line with individual support plans and risk assessments, while managing expectations regarding housing pathways
Provide regular one-to-one key working sessions with residents
Support residents to develop independent living skills including budgeting, cooking, cleaning, managing appointments, and other daily living skills
Support residents to set and achieve short-term and long-term goals including employment, education, health improvement, social inclusion, and move-on planning
Encourage engagement in meaningful activities and community involvement
Build trusting, professional, and appropriate relationships with residents
Provide responsive support when difficulties arise
Promote client empowerment while managing expectations around housing needs and support options

2. Health, Wellbeing & Advocacy

Promote residents’ physical health, mental health, safety, and wellbeing
Support access to primary healthcare, mental health services, substance misuse services, and social care services
Support residents to build resilience and develop coping strategies
Provide core support services, benefits advice, and guidance on accessing healthcare
Advocate on behalf of residents to ensure their voice is heard
Reduce barriers to accessing support services
Continually assess housing and support needs and refer appropriately

3. Housing & Tenancy Sustainment

Support residents to understand and comply with tenancy responsibilities
Assist with rent payments, benefits applications, budgeting, and prevention of arrears
Support accommodation and housing applications
Liaise with landlords, housing associations, and local authorities
Support move-on planning into stable accommodation
Carry out regular welfare and room checks in line with service procedures

4. Safeguarding

Recognise and respond to safeguarding concerns in line with policies, legislation, and best practice
Identify indicators of crisis, vulnerability, risk, or deterioration in wellbeing
Report concerns promptly and appropriately
Promote harm reduction and trauma-informed practices
Contribute to crisis prevention and incident management
Maintain a safe, clean, and accessible environment ensuring all residents feel safe and secure

5. Partnership Working

Work collaboratively with health services, social care, probation, housing providers, and local authorities
Attend meetings, reviews, and case conferences

6. Administration, Record Keeping & Compliance

Maintain clear, accurate, and up-to-date case notes and records
Ensure compliance with organisational policies and procedures
Participate in supervision, team meetings, and mandatory training

Person Specification

Essential

Experience working with vulnerable adults or those experiencing homelessness
Ability to build positive, professional relationships with residents and external agencies
Strong communication, organisational, and record-keeping skills
Commitment to safeguarding and person-centred practice

Desirable

Experience in supported housing, homelessness, or mental health services
Knowledge of welfare benefits and housing legislation
Experience in risk assessment and safeguarding practice
Experience of partnership and multi-agency working

Additional Information

This role involves lone working
A satisfactory DBS check and Right to Work check is required
The post holder is expected to work in line with organisational values, policies, and procedures
