The role
H.W. Coates Ltd is looking for an experienced and confident Stock Controller to join our team in Middlewich.
This is an important office-based position within a busy warehousing and distribution operation. We are looking for someone who takes pride in accuracy, is comfortable taking ownership of problems and can remain organised and professional when working under pressure.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day control and administration of stock, working closely with colleagues, customers and operational teams to ensure stock records are accurate and issues are identified and resolved promptly.
This would suit someone with previous stock control, inventory, warehouse administration or similar office experience who enjoys investigating discrepancies and seeing problems through to resolution.
Working hours:
Monday – Friday : 8:30am – 5:30pm (40 hours per week)
Key responsibilities
Your duties will include:
- Processing stock receipts accurately and efficiently
- Processing customer orders and associated stock movements
- Monitoring and maintaining accurate inventory records
- Carrying out stock checks and investigating discrepancies
- Identifying stock errors and ensuring they are reported, investigated and resolved
- Monitoring operational KPIs
- Producing and maintaining reports using Microsoft Excel
- Liaising with warehouse and transport colleagues to resolve operational issues
- Communicating professionally with customers by telephone and email
- Prioritising workloads in a busy operational environment
- Identifying recurring problems and helping to improve stock control processes
- Maintaining accurate records and completing general stock administration
- Supporting the wider office and operational team when required
What we're looking for
More important than experience with our particular systems is your ability to work accurately, confidently and methodically.
We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:
- Previous experience in an office-based stock control, inventory, warehouse administration, logistics or similar role
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- Confidence investigating discrepancies and taking ownership of problems through to resolution
- The ability to prioritise and remain calm when dealing with several demands at once
- Good numerical and analytical skills
- Strong customer service and communication skills, both by telephone and email
- Good Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and Outlook
- The confidence to question information when something doesn't look right
- A dependable, organised and proactive approach to work
- The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Experience using a Warehouse Management System (WMS) or Transport Management System (TMS) would be useful but is not essential.

The person we're looking for
This isn't a role where we simply want someone to process what's put in front of them.
We're looking for someone who notices when something isn't right, investigates it and takes responsibility for getting it resolved.
You'll need to be comfortable speaking with customers and colleagues, working to deadlines and maintaining accuracy even when the office is busy.
