Full job description

Job purpose

As our Senior Young Dads Worker (Neurodiverse), you will play a key and active role in increasing NEYDL’s reach with, and quality of support for, neurodivergent young dads. You will provide direct, adapted one-to-one and group support, and help build NEYDL’s wider organisational understanding of how to work effectively and inclusively with neurodivergent young dads and their families.

Salary - £30,321.00 gross per annum (FTE); pro rata for 17.5 hours per week

Hours - Part-time (17.5 hours per week), worked flexibly across the week by agreement, with some evening and weekend work expected to meet the needs of the young dads we support

Location - Hybrid, home-based with regular travel across County Durham, Tees Valley and Tyne and Wear.

Key responsibilities

1. Outreach

Identify neurodivergent young dads, expectant dads and non-birthing people across County Durham, Tees Valley and Tyne and Wear through a comprehensive outreach plan
Build relationships with diagnostic, educational and support services relevant to neurodivergent people and their families (e.g. SEND services, autism and ADHD support organisations, educational psychology services, special schools)
Work with NEYDL’s wider frontline team to identify young dads already engaged with NEYDL who may benefit from additional neurodiversity-informed support

2. Support

Provide effective, high-quality, one-to-one support to neurodivergent young dads, both virtually and in-person, adapting communication and approach to individual needs
Establish, coordinate and co-facilitate peer support groups and peer moderated video gaming groups for neurodivergent young dads, where desired
Support young dads to register, access and complete DigiDAD e-learning content, adapting support to individual learning needs
Support the delivery of training and educational activities that respond to the identified needs of neurodivergent young dads and their families

3. Building organisational understanding

Act as a point of expertise within NEYDL on the needs of neurodivergent young dads, supporting colleagues to adapt their own practice where appropriate
Contribute to making NEYDL’s wider service offer, including group activities, events and communications, genuinely accessible to neurodivergent young dads

4. Research, monitoring and evaluation

Effectively record, monitor and report programme performance via NEYDL’s data management system and evaluation framework
Ensure all relevant data is recorded and stored accurately, on time and in line with NEYDL’s Data Protection Policy
Comply with monitoring, evaluation and reporting requirements as part of NEYDL’s internal processes and any grant funding or commissioning requirements
Support the work of NEYDL’s research partners and independent evaluators as required

5. Collaboration

Work in partnership with key stakeholders to improve the service offer for neurodivergent young dads

6. Advocacy

Represent NEYDL at external events and meetings to raise awareness of the service and influence other organisations
Develop and build effective networks and working relationships with principal stakeholders and supporters
Promote, campaign and advocate with and on behalf of neurodivergent young men, ensuring NEYDL continues to be a leading voice for positive change

7. Personal development

Attend fortnightly team meetings and internal and external supervision
Take responsibility for your own professional development, including identification of training needs

8. Recruitment

Support the recruitment and advancement of young dads seeking to progress into meaningful volunteering roles (including DigiDAD content creators, peer researchers, AmbassaDADS, Community Cycling Group Leaders and Community Beekeepers)
Strive to ensure that young dads who access NEYDL’s programmes and services are reflective of the diverse communities in which we work

9. Engagement

Support NEYDL’s communications and engagement strategy, such as writing copy and sourcing images for annual reports, social media campaigns and local news media

10. Other

Deputise for the Programme Manager as required
Report to the Board of Trustees in person or in writing on a quarterly basis as required

11. Standard clauses

The post holder must carry out their responsibilities at all times with due regard to NEYDL’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion strategy, policy and statement, and Safeguarding Policy
The post holder is responsible for ensuring that policies and procedures relating to health and safety in the workplace are adhered to at all times
The post holder must respect the confidentiality of data stored electronically and by other means, in line with NEYDL’s Data Protection Policy
This role requires satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance prior to appointment
