TURPENTYNE ART CLASSES IS CURRENTLY SEEKING A
MOBILE ART CLASS INSTRUCTOR FOR OUR SATELLITE PROGRAMME IN COUNTY DURHAM.
Instructors must be skilled and experienced in a wide range of art mediums, including soft pastel, oil pastel, watercolour, acrylic, and oil painting. We accept a wide range of qualifications and courses relating to art and teaching. All applicants will be expected to furnish a well-rounded portfolio of artwork, demonstrating their skills in the listed mediums. The ideal candidate will have realistic drawing and painting skills as well as an appreciation for cartooning and animation.
We are seeking a candidate who is independent, honest, reliable, organized, and punctual. Our courses are popular and booked in advance, so it is imperative that classes run on time every week. We require teachers who can be relied upon to run classes on their own and be able to take initiative when things don’t go as planned.
Candidates must be able to deliver highly structured instruction based upon our curriculum and methodology, targeting the needs and interests of a variety of different ages and abilities. Candidates must be confident in their ability to independently teach a class of up to 9 children, with ages ranging from 5 to 18. Candidates will be expected to follow Turpentyne policies and procedures whilst conducting themselves with professionalism when dealing with venues, students and their parents.
When teaching, personality is important! The ideal candidate is happy to create art and is excited to share their knowledge with students who are anxious to learn.
This role will require travel to various locations in County Durham throughout the week, as well as the transportation of a classroom kit. A valid driving license and reliable motor vehicle are required. Mileage will be reimbursed at 55p per mile.
Minimum term-time weekly working hours are Wednesdays, 9:45a*-7:00p. Currently we operate a full schedule of classes on Wednesday at Merryoaks Community Hall in Neville’s Cross. Additional days and hours will be added as we expand the programme to additional locations in September. This is not specific yet, as we are looking to grow the programme in coordination with the instructor’s preferences in mind.
During school breaks, we may offer morning and afternoon workshops, which can range from 4-8 hours per day, Monday-Friday. Any County Durham Workshops would be scheduled in coordination with the instructor.

Starting Pay: £16-18 per hour
Annual merit-based pay increases
This position will begin training as soon as possible. Curriculum training will be scheduled on weekdays between the hours of 10:00 am and 3:00 pm and will be held at our administrative office in Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne. Classroom training on Wednesdays in Neville’s Cross will commence shortly after the instructor has begun training in our curriculum.
