Timber Machinist – Head Office, Erith - Starting Salary £27,760. pa plus allowances for each machine you are able to fully operate.
Join our production team in Erith and play a key role in transforming quality timber into finished products that meet exact customer specifications. As a Timber Machinist, you will work from works orders and picking notes to machine timber to the highest possible standards, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and quality in every job.
This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same. You will help organise and prioritise the mill’s daily workload, working closely with the Production Manager and wider team to keep operations running efficiently and on schedule. Your attention to detail, commitment to craftsmanship, and ability to work as part of a team will contribute directly to the success of our production process.
Safety and professionalism are at the heart of everything we do. You will be responsible for following all UK Health & Safety regulations and company procedures, promoting safe working practices throughout the mill. You will also help maintain machinery used in timber production, ensuring equipment remains safe, reliable, and ready to perform.

What You'll Be Doing
As a Timber Machinist, you'll play a vital role in delivering high-quality timber products while maintaining the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and craftsmanship. Key responsibilities include:
- Producing accurately machined timber to meet customer specifications, minimising waste and working in line with all relevant Alsford Timber grading standards.
- Planning and preparing machining jobs from detailed technical drawings, selecting the most suitable timber and calculating material requirements to ensure efficient production.
- Selecting and preparing materials from stock to fulfil customer orders accurately and efficiently.
- Completing production job sheets with precision, ensuring all work is correctly recorded and traceable.
- Maintaining a clean, organised, and productive working environment within the mill and production areas.
- Identifying and reporting any machinery faults, maintenance issues, or potential hazards promptly to the Production Manager.
- Safely strapping, packaging, and preparing completed orders for transportation each day.
- Taking pride in maintaining high presentation standards across timber stacks, storage bays, and your working area.
- Supporting the safe and efficient movement of timber throughout the site.
- Developing and applying a strong knowledge of timber products, stock locations, and mill operations.
- Championing Health & Safety by following company procedures and UK regulations at all times.
- Promoting a positive safety culture through strict adherence to safe working practices.
- Supporting the wider production team with additional duties and projects as reasonably required by the Production Manager.
