Full job description

About the Role

We’re looking for a skilled Laminator to join our fabrication team, working on high-quality marine composite structures including hulls, decks, and interior components.

You’ll play a key role in the manufacturing, repair and finishing of GRP and composite parts, ensuring all work meets strict quality and safety standards. This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced environment, ideal for someone with strong attention to detail and a passion for craftsmanship.

Key Responsibilities

Manufacture GRP components using hand lay-up, vacuum bagging and other composite techniques
Prepare moulds and surfaces, including applying release agents
Mix and apply resins, gelcoats and catalysts to specification
Trim, cut, drill and finish composite components
Perform repairs and modifications to existing GRP parts
Ensure correct fibre orientation, thickness and resin ratios
Safely operate hand and power tools (e.g. sanders, grinders)
Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment
Collaborate with engineering, production and quality teams to meet deadlines

About You:

Essential:

Proven experience in GRP or composite fabrication (ideally marine)
Strong understanding of fibreglass lay-up techniques and materials
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and lay-up schedules
Skilled in hand lay-up and wet lay-up (vacuum infusion/RTM beneficial)
High attention to detail and commitment to quality
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Awareness of safe handling of resins, chemicals and composites
Physically capable of manual work

Desirable:

NVQ / City & Guilds in Composite Manufacturing, Marine Engineering or similar
Experience in plug or mould making
Knowledge of carbon fibre and epoxy systems
Background in boatbuilding or marine repairs
