VACANCY: Stone Mason

LOCATION: Danbury, Essex

JOB TYPE: Full, permanent

SALARY: Dependent on experience

The Stone Mason Role

Established over 145 years ago, Bakers of Danbury are a privately owned Essex based heritage building contractor with an excellent reputation for conservation expertise and quality. We work across Essex, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Kent and Hertfordshire as well as into east, north and central London.

As a stone mason you will be required to cut and shape stonework with a range of hand and power tools, working from templates and moulds, to give it a textured or polished finish (dressing), in accordance with design plans. You may also be involved in carving figures, lettering or pattern work.

This is a site-based role, working on churches, cathedrals and listed properties and structures in Essex and the surrounding counties including some areas of London.

The candidate is to have a proven track record qualification/experience in stone masonry. The successful candidate should know/be able to:

Job Description

Efficiently and effectively be able to cut out and lay, replace and indent natural stone dressings
Have a good knowledge and experience working with lime mortars, repointing, rebuilding masonry walls
Follow and adhere to Health and Safety policy at all times.
Be able to work carefully and methodically.
Read drawings and plans.
Be accurate with dimensions.
Have an eye for detail to ensure quality control and high standards are met.
The ability to work as an individual or as part of a team.

The Church Works Department

The Bakers of Danbury Church Works Department works on a wide variety of projects involving the restoration and repair of historical buildings, listed properties, castle ruins, cathedrals and monuments. We work with both commercial and residential clients.

We are renowned for our high-quality work and skilled craftsmanship using materials and methods that focus on preserving properties and combine the traditional with modern techniques.
