About MCS
MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) is the UK’s national quality mark for small-scale renewable technology, such as solar panels and heat pumps. We’re here to set standards and provide protection, giving consumers confidence to invest in renewable technologies to heat and power their homes and small businesses. Working with industry, MCS defines, maintains, and improves quality, by setting standards for low-carbon energy technology products, contractors, and their installations.
Now is an exciting time to join MCS; especially as we have recently launched the redevelopment of the Scheme, which has a greater focus on consumer protections, quality workmanship, and dispute resolution. 2025 was a record-breaking year for the small-scale renewables industry in terms of installation volumes and we look forward to continuing our vital role in driving forward the UK's progress towards Net Zero.

Digital Team
You’ll be joining a new and growing Digital function that is central to MCS’s transformation. The team is responsible for delivering and supporting the systems that underpin the operations of our certification schemes; from Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM and the MCS Installations Database to our wider Azure and Power Platform environment.
We work across every part of the organisation, partnering with colleagues in Customer Experience, Scheme Management, Standards & Technical, and core shared services to ensure digital tools meet real business needs. As Scheme Owner our ethos is built on the delivery of continuous improvement and our role is to take forward ideas and requirements as a key part of the wider programmes and projects that MCS is committed to, making sure requirements are tested and validated, and subsequently embedded solutions in ways that staff can rely on every day.
The Digital team is all about execution and delivery. We focus on turning concepts into working solutions, driving innovation by supporting discovery, testing new functionality, and ensuring that changes are successfully adopted across the business. If you enjoy rolling up your sleeves and working closely with others to make digital systems deliver real impact, you’ll fit right in.
What we’re looking for in you
You’re naturally curious about how things work and how they could work better. You love bringing structure to ideas, asking the right questions, and turning complex challenges into clear, actionable outcomes.
You’re organised, collaborative, and confident working with both technical and non-technical teams. Above all, you care about making digital change meaningful - helping MCS improve quality, protect consumers, and support the UK’s transition to Net Zero.
You’ll thrive at MCS if you:
- Enjoy asking questions and translating answers into structure and action
- Think about user experience as much as system function
- Can explain things simply and bring people with you on the journey
- Take ownership and deliver with precision and attention to detail
- Are calm, organised, and comfortable managing multiple priorities
- Love collaborating with others to solve problems and make improvements
- Care about purpose - helping MCS drive quality, protect consumers, and support the UK’s transition to Net Zero
About the role
Are you ready to help shape how a purpose-driven organisation delivers digital change?
As Digital Business Analyst, you'll shape how digital change is defined and delivered across MCS, working at the intersection of internal operational systems and external-facing services used by installers, certification bodies, and consumers. You'll lead discovery activities to understand how different audiences interact with MCS, from internal users following defined processes, to external users whose experience depends on clarity, accessibility, and trust - you'll then translate those needs into clear, structured requirements that guide design and delivery.
You'll work at the heart of our digital transformation across Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM, the Azure-based MCS Installations Database (MID), and the Microsoft Power Platform, collaborating with colleagues and delivery partners to turn ideas into prioritised, well-scoped backlogs. Your analysis will ensure every change aligns to measurable outcomes for our teams, installers, and consumers - supporting quality, efficiency, and consumer protection across the scheme.
This role is about clarity, structure, and impact. While others will lead testing and support, you'll set them up for success, ensuring requirements are unambiguous, traceable, and ready for handover to engineering, testing, and delivery colleagues for build and implementation.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead discovery across internal and external user groups, running workshops, interviews, and process reviews with operational teams, installers, certification bodies, and consumers to capture needs, pain points, and improvement opportunities.
- Map and document end-to-end user journeys for both internal and external audiences, ensuring that requirements reflect not only the operational process but also the experience of the people using the service.
- Work alongside design and delivery partners to ensure external-facing interfaces are accessible, intuitive, and inclusive, balancing operational requirements with user experience principles.
- Translate business and user needs into clear deliverables, user stories, acceptance criteria, process maps, journey maps, and functional specifications that guide both back-end configuration and front-end design.
- Collaborate with delivery partners to validate requirements, review proposed configurations, and ensure business goals are met.
- Maintain and refine the product backlog in collaboration with the Digital Applications Manager and wider Digital team, providing analysis, impact assessments, and delivery insight to support prioritisation.
- Maintain traceability and version control across all documentation, ensuring requirements and decisions are recorded and easily accessible.
- Support design discussions and change governance, ensuring scope, dependencies, and risks are clearly articulated and managed.
- Assess the impact of proposed changes, identifying risks, dependencies, and mitigations to reduce adverse effects on users and operations.
- Communicate analysis outcomes and recommendations in clear, accessible language to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Champion business analysis standards and continuous improvement across the Digital team, capturing lessons learned and refining discovery and documentation approaches over time.
- Work closely with technical colleagues to ensure requirements are clear, testable, and ready for implementation and operational support.
